Résumé
Le relief de Carthage fait partie, avec celui d’Alger, d’un monument de Carthage (Colonia Julia Karthago antique) réalisé durant l’époque augustéenne, entre 13 av. J.-C. et 14 apr. J.-C. L’iconographie représentée laisse penser que nous avons affaire à une réplique du relief de Florence issu de l’Ara Pacis Augusta. La ressemblance entre les deux panneaux est frappante et leur interprétation iconographique est encore sujette à discussion. Néanmoins, une particularité du panneau de Carthage pourrait permettre d’élucider une partie du problème. Certains éléments pourraient indiquer qu’il ait pu faire partie d’une réutilisation un peu plus d’un siècle après sa création, afin, peut-être, de décorer un autre monument après avoir subi une retouche.
Abstract
The relief of Carthage is part, with the one of Algiers, of a monument of Carthage (the ancient Colonia Julia Karthago), realized during the augustean period, between 13 BC and 14 AD. The iconography represented on this relief is reminiscent of the one of Florence from the Ara Pacis Augustae. The resemblance between both panels is striking and their iconographic interpretation is still subject to discussion. Nevertheless, a particularity of the panel of Carthage could allow to clarify a part of the problem. Some elements could indicate that it was possibly a part of a re-use a little more than a century after its creation, maybe in order to decorate another monument having undergone a retouch.
