Histos The Online Journal of Ancient Historiography

About
Histos: The On-Line Journal of Ancient Historiography is an international journal based at the University of Alberta, publishing scholarship primarily in Classical Studies along with associated disciplines such as History, Literary Studies and Religious Studies. Our main focus is on historical and biographical writing from ancient Greece and Rome (c. 400 BCE - c. 600 CE) though we also publish on other premodern historical traditions such as Jewish or early medieval historiography. We publish high-quality, rigorously peer reviewed articles directed mainly at an academic readership, ranging in length from 5,000 to 20,000 or more words. In addition to 9-10 articles a year, we typically publish 20-25 book reviews or review-discussions. Our contributors include both established and emerging scholars from North America and around the world. From its inception, Histos has always been entirely on line and fully open-access, with no author fees.

Review Process
All research articles in Histos are peer-reviewed through a double-blind process in which neither author nor reviewer is aware of the other's identity. Article editors solicit reviewer reports from recognised experts in the relevant field and make determinations accordingly.

Authors will never be charged to submit or publish a manuscript through Histos, and all articles published since 2024 will be made available under an International Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0), as indicated in the Copyright Notice section under the Submissions page.

Pre-print versions posted online should include a citation and link to the final published version in Histos as soon as the issue is available; post-print versions (including the final publisher's PDF) should include a citation and link to the journal's website.
Research Misconduct Policy
The editors of Histos will take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data falsification/fabrication, among others.
