Résumé
Cet article présente les résultats d’une vaste enquête sur les services associés aux exportations de produits français. Même si l’orientation service ne concerne qu’un faible tiers des PMI exportatrices, elles se montrent plus dynamiques sur les marchés étrangers. La complexité du produit est le premier moteur de cette tertiarisation et les secteurs sont donc concernés de façon très inégale. L’organisation de l’entreprise (plutôt que sa taille), puis son type d’engagement à l’exportation interviennent ensuite. Les services concernés sont d’abord les plus tangibles ou les plus liés au produit: environnement technique ou logistique. Le premier type est lié à la complexité des produits (biens d’équipement) tandis que le second concerne plutôt les autres secteurs. Les PMI recourent peu aux filiales pour assurer les prestations extérieures, préférant les relations avec des partenaires indépendants. Les services associés permettent de dégager de nouvelles ressources lorsqu’un choix de diversification est à leur origine, mais également lorsque l’environnement tertiaire du produit s’enrichit.

Abstract
This paper presents the results of a large survey on the association of services to French products in foreign markets. ‘Tertiarization” seems to be a very real trend among all exporting firms, including SMFs. Even if it concerns less than one third of these firms, it seems to endow them with additional dynamism in the foreign markets. The mainspring of this tertiarization is the complexity of the product which concerns sectors to differing degrees. The level of organization and the type of export are also relevant. Two prevailing logics of product services have been identified: the technical environment of the product and its logistic environment. The former is closely related to the complexity of products (capital goods) while the latter primarily concerns the other sectors. French exporting SMFs seem reluctant to develop subsidiaries abroad. Most of them deliver services directly by themselves or by subcontracting local agents. For most SMFs “tertiarization” of exports is above all a cost, but some firms obtain new incomes from tertiary activity: when service offer is conceived from the beginning, as a branching out into the tertiary sector or when the tertiary environment of the product becomes more complete.

Este artículo presenta los resultados de una larga encuesta sobre los servicios que los exportadores franceses de bienes materiales ofrecen en los mercados extranjeros. Las pequeñas y medianas empresas (PyMEs) exportadoras en esta situación son pocas (un poco de menos de una sobre tres) pero son favorecidas por exportaciones más dinámicas. La primera razón de esta tercialización de la oferta está en la complejidad del producto que difiere mucho de un sector de actividad a otro. Luego interviene el nivel de organisación de la firma (en vez de su tamaño), depués su grado de compromiso a la exportación. Los tipos de servicios ofrecidos son los más tangibles y los más vinculados al producto principal. Se trata de dos tipos de entorno terciario del producto: técnico y logfstico. Las prestaciones técnicas se refieren sobre todo a bienes de equipo mientrás que la logística interesa más bien los otros sectores. Para atender las prestaciones al extranjero las PyMEs prefieren entablar relaciones con socios locales en vez de desarrollar su propia red de filiales. Estos servicios pueden convertirse en nuevas fuentes de facturación: aunque, al principio, no hubiera objetivo alguno de diversificación hacia el terciaro, el enriquecimiento del entorno terciaro del producto lleva rápidamente a facturar los servicios ofrecidos.
Zusammenfassung
Dieser Artikel präsentiert die Resultate einer breiten Untersuchung über Dienstleistungen von französischen Exportprodukten. Die Serviceorientierung betrifft nur einen kleinen Teil der exportorientierten kleinen und mittleren Industrieunternehmungen, aber sie entwickelt sich sehr dynamisch auf den ausländischen Märkten. Die Komplexität des Produktes ist der erste Grund für diese Dienstleistungsorientierung, wobei die verschiedenen Sektoren in unterschiedlicher Weise davon betroffen sind. Weitere Gründe sind in der Organisation der Unternehmung, in der Art des Exportengagements zu sehen; weniger wichtig erscheint die Unternehmungsgrösse.
Die betroffenen Serviceleistungen sind zuerst diejenigen, welche am leichtesten fassbar sind oder sehr stark mit dem Produkt verbunden sind. Der erste Typ ist gebunden an die Komplexität des Produktes (Ausrüstungsgüter) wogegen der zweite Typ vielmehr die anderen Sektoren betrifft. Die kleinen und mittleren Industrieunternehmungen pflegen weniger die Filialform um die externen Leistungen zu sichern, sondern bevorzugen die Verbindungen mit unabhängigen Partnern. Die verbundenen Dienstleistungen erlauben neue Mittel freizusetzen und gleichzeitig kann die Dienstleistungsumwelt des Produktes erweitert werden.
