Résumé
Le démon, c’est-à-dire la créature spirituelle déchue, peut-il être sauvé ? Deux thèses sont en présence : la réprobation éternelle (qui défend la damnation effective et irréversible) et l’apocatastase (qui affirme la réintégration finale). Dans différents textes qui font autorité, le Magistère condamne clairement l’apocatastase. Rendant compte de ce donné, saint Thomas d’Aquin argumente à partir de l’irréversibilité de la décision démoniaque qui elle-même se fonde sur l’intuitivité de l’intellect angélique qui, avec sa nature, est demeuré intouché par la faute du démon. L’article interroge la pertinence de cette argumentation et fait une autre proposition pour rendre compte des affirmations magistérielles.
Abstract
Can the demon, that is, the fallen spirit creature, be saved? Two theses are present: eternal reprobation (which defends effective and irreversible damnation) and apocatastasis (which affirms final reintegration). In various authoritative texts, the Magisterium clearly condemns the apocatastasis. Taking account of this data, Saint Thomas Aquinas argues from the irreversibility of the demonic decision which itself is based on the intuitiveness of the angelic intellect which, with its nature, remained unaffected by the fault of the demon. The article questions the relevance of this argument and makes another proposal to account for the magisterial assertions.
