Court cases of betting-related match fixing regularly affect Taiwanese professional baseball league since the mid-1990s. They involve a large number of players and coaches, local politicians and members of the police. The act of cheating is a breach of the social contract between the professional players to their supporters. These players are usually designated by the emblematic animal of the club to which is attached the epithet « black » which emphasizes the negative perception of these acts and implicitly linking them to criminal organizations that control gambling. Corrupt practices are embedded in extensive networks in which players fit. Players are thus engaged between several areas of social obligations and under the threat of a lifetime ban from the league. An analysis of betting-related match fixing allows to understand how moral values shape the practice of baseball in Taiwan and how they are negotiated.

In this article, Laetitia Le Clech gives an overview of the different issues and particularities which come into play in the conservation of geographic archives. In addition to maps, these include photographs and images as well as certain studies of terrain. She first presents several examples of the processing of cartographic documents in different places, and discusses the challenges posed by these documents. Geographic archives have many uses in the areas of history and geopolitics and in the development of government policies. The author reviews and illustrates each of these uses with examples. She then gives an overview of the conservation of cartographic documents in the digital era. As with other types of archives, this context has its own set of questions and new practices, including digitization for preservation and communication, and also the issues of obsolescence and the establishment of new norms. The author finishes her text with a presentation of diverse initiatives for communication and document creation which are presented by the new possibilities offered by digitization. She also alerts us again certain abuses and promotes a strong framework, the better to highlight these special documents.

This article treats the relation to time, space, and action involved in practising a game and acquiring the associated social codes in a Massive Multiplayer Online Game. It represents an intervention in an emerging area of research in Game Studies by proposing an ethnographic exploration of the virtual world by disabled people. The examination of these forms of involvement and related considerations highlights the anthropological tension between the game (the game as a device) and playing (the integration of the framework of the game involved in the action of playing). The player, by inventing him or herself (with the creation of an avatar) and by experiencing a ludic framework is driven to negotiate his growing familiarity with the knowledge and know-how that help to assess his capacity to act. Playing means being played, but also means outplaying the limitations existing in the necessary governance of a cyberspace. From this anthropological perspective, the dynamic linking the player and the technical device invite us to reconsider the dialectic between virtual and real in order to conceptualize the processes of « acting by proxy » that characterize this kind of experience.

If Quebec Francophone psychiatry has for a long time found its inspiration in French theories and practices, it is in the US that Camille Laurin, then director of the Department of Psychiatry at the Université de Montréal, conducted researches, during the 1960's, in order to reform his training program. That is what a recently discovered archival document, found in the collection of this university administration, reveals. This unpublished document, including the results of an inquiry conducted by the psychiatrist in 1962-1963 with his American counterparts, shows the importance of the US model in the assertion of French-speaking psychiatry in Montreal, especially in the creation of the first fully francophone training program of the entire province. It reminds us that, in the middle of the Quiet Revolution, francophone psychiatrists in Quebec still lived, and even in a new way, their American moment.

This study seeks to determine how the use of nomadic digital tools introduced by students in French-language courses can impact the shape of a well-defined academic form, such as a given organizational form of teaching/learning in the university context. A group interview survey of students and teachers was conducted at a French learning centre geared toward international students in order to collect the involved actors' discourse and undertake a critical analysis, with special focus on the expression of power relations. Our study attests that an academic form endures through a dialectic of docility and control, and is located in an in-between space where the rules governing the use of connected objects are rarely clearly established.

Ecological transition, which has emerged from the ecological modernization current, is the most recent phase in the integration of environmental issues in human society. We propose that transition studies can be fruitfully interfaced with economics schools that have worked on economic reforms driven by environmental imperatives. More specifically, institutionalist ecological economy offers tools to understand economic transformations as more than technical adjustments but as a social process. In its applied aspects, transition builds on sustainable development debates but has gone a step further in making the economics-environment issues more explicit, even if the path to a green economy is still unclear. The transition field is driven by both progressive reforms and radical proposals that will feed the construction process of the post-ecological society.
