Insect pests of public health importance were the first among which the development of highly insecticide resistant strains was shown to be widespread. More recently, numerous instances of resistance among economically important insect pests of growing crops have been revealed. The relative scarcity of reported resistance in stored-products pests is probably a reflection of fewer investigations and fewer instances of continued insecticidal controls. Plots of areal coverage as a function of height and intensity have been made for 17 radar echo patches all smaller than 1300 nmi.^2, that were recorded on the constant altitude maps of the 3-cm McGill radar. From these plots, vertical profiles of flux and density of precipitation have been obtained. The profiles generally showed maximum values aloft. Ice was grown from melts of tap water and low salinity NaCl brines. The melts could, be heated from below and stirred, so that the rate of freezing, the temperature gradient below the solid-liquid (S-L) interface, and the initial concentration of the melt could be varied independently. The emission of multiply-charged fragments (Z > 3) in nu.c lear rea ct ions was f ir st recorded by Perk ins (1) who studied disintegrations caused by cosmic rays. Subsequently the production of complex particles has been observed in many nuclear reactions induced by projectiles with a wide range of energies. About 25,000 acres of flax for fiber was grown during the second world war in the Province of Québec when the traditional sources of supply in Europe were cut off (Anonymous). With the armistice, the prices dropped and farmers abandoned this crop because of competition from European countries. In the 1950's a few farmers became interested in growing flax for linseed oil, chiefly in the Montreal area.
