1979 — The relationship between distractibility and language behaviour in paranoid and nonparanoid schizophrenicsAbstract
Read more

1979 — Behaviour of molten polyolefins extruded from an annular dieAbstract
In the extrusion blow molding process, the behaviour of the parison prior to inflation is of central importance. Properties of the finished article, such as wall thickness and thickness uniformity, are determined by the simultaneous phenomena of swell and sag. In the present study, an apparatus was built to study the behaviour of the extrudate from an annular die under isothermal conditions. First, sag was eliminated by extruding into an oil bath, and both thickness and diameter swell were determined as functions of time. Then, extruding into heated air, sag behaviour was observed. These procedures allowed the study of the … Read more

The present study, based on almost a year's fieldwork, is the first comprehensive investigation of coffee marketing in Haiti. This commerce is shown to illustrate two levels of dependence relationships: one, that of international trade where agricultural products have always been, and continue to be, exchanged on an unequal basis and, two, at the level of the internal marketing system where the habitants (peasants) are tied to a monopoly, support the burden of taxation and experience strong social and political control. The main marketing agents, the speculateurs (middlemen) and the exportateurs (exporters) are identified and described, marketing mechanisms analysed, and … Read more

1979 — Factors associated with Spartan breakdown of appleAbstract
Quebec-grown Spartan apples were compared with those from British Columbia in an effort to explain why B.C. fruits are more susceptible to the Spartan breakdown storage disorder. Based on fruit diameter apples were sized into small, medium and large categories from Quebec and medium, large and extra large from British Columbia. Peel and flesh tissues of individual apples from each category were analysed for total N, P, K, Ca, Mg and Zn. Firmness, percent red colour, specific gravity, moisture content, titrateable acidity and percent soluble solids along with co2 and c2H4 release rates also were determined on individual fruits in … Read more

1979 — Growth without guidance : the development of the Swedish foreign aid program 1960-1968Abstract
Policy requires not only a general statement of principles, but also policy guidelines to direct implementation which is consistent with the principles. Policy-makers may at times be unwilling or unable to establish those guidelines, but a program with characteristic shape may emerge nonetheless through processes other than that of formal policymaking. The study deals with the development of the Swedish foreign aid program 1960-1968 in the absence of articulated policy guidelines. The shape of the aid program is defined in terms of four sets of alternative characteristics, and the study deals with the processes by which the program acquired characteristic … Read more

1979 — A study of terminal nucleotide sequences in reovirus RNAAbstract
Read more

1979 — Ecological Energetics of the Tropical Sea UrchinAbstract
Read more

1979 — Age and origin of the Sept Iles anorthosite complex, QuebecAbstract
Rb-Sr studies of the Sept Iles anorthosite complex show that it was emplaced during the Cambrian and that it is unrelated to the Grenville province. The age of this complex is very similar to that of other igneous rocks associated with the St. Lawrence graben system. Both the acidic and basic components of the complex have similar ages and originated from magmas with similar, low('87) Sr/('86) Sr initial ratios. There is no evidence that crustal contamination played an important role in the generation of the acidic magmas. The earliest rocks of the complex exposed at Sept Iles are now observed … Read more

1979 — Folate Accumulation and Turnover in Cultured Human FibroblastsAbstract
Cultured human fibroblasts formed polyglutamate folate from 3h PteGlu in the culture medium. Intracellular polyglutamate increased with duration of incubation, reaching a maximum after about 10 days. Intracellular folate was proportional to the PteGlu in which the cells were incubated. Cells in logarithmic growth accumulated intracellular folate in higher concentrations than did confluent cells. In confluent cells grown in PteGlu concentrations in excess of those required to sustain a maximum growth rate, a larger proportion of folate was polyglutamate tan at lower PteGlu concentrations. […] Read more
