Technological development at the turn of the twentieth century, more specially in the hydroelectricity industry, has brought the industrialization of several regions. It has been particularly the case in Quebec, after 1900, when the growth of new industrial groups such as pulp and paper, electro-metallurgy, etc... had given way to the structuration of Quebec's industrial space-economy. The psychological significance of recurrent dreams was explored in a multivariate comparison of recurrent, previously-recurrent and non-recurrent dreamers on core psychological well-being and recalled dream content dimensions. Analytical psychology dream theory was employed to generate hypotheses concerning the relationship between recurrent dreams and psychological distress or neuroticism, and the psychological health value held to associate with the resolution of a recurrent dream. Sixty-seven individuals twice completed measures assessing core psychological well-being dimensions and collected a fourteen day time-sample of their remembered dreams. The psychological well-being of end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients and spouses was investigated from a dyadic perspective. The responses of patients and spouses from five groups of couples--illustrating different points in the progression and treatment of ESRD--were compared both across ESRD groups and between patients and spouses. It was hypothesized that those ESRD groups with the highest levels of illness/treatment intrusiveness, i.e. the two dialysis groups, would exhibit the highest levels of marital role strain and concomitantly the lowest levels of psychological well-being. Phosphorus and phytoplankton dynamics in freshwater are usually thought to be tightly coupled and interdependent, yet orthophosphate uptake in situ has been observed to be mediated largely by particles of bacterial size. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the general hypothesis that freshwater bacterioplankton are markedly superior competitors for phosphorus, relative to the phytoplankton. Using isolates of three species of pelagic bacteria, and two of algae, it was shown that the bacteria possess much higher affinity orthophosphate uptake kinetics than the algae. This thesis evaluates how industrial product firms screen new product ideas. Its aims are to investigate: (1) the evaluative dimensions used when assessing proposals, (2) how these criteria relate to screening decisions and (3) how new product environments--market, product and firm--affect this decision model. A two stage research approach involved: (1) the establishment of new product screening attributes relevant to industrial product firms and (2) a reassessment by managers of recently screened new product ideas (accepts and rejects) in terms of these attributes.
