The Internet represents a relatively new phenomenon, offering players a convenient, easily accessible, and relatively anonymous gambling venue. This study explored Internet gambling in a sample of youth aged 12 to 24 years. Students in high school, CEGEP, and university were asked to report on their involvement in gambling activities both on-line and off-line. In the past 12 months, 4.6% of participants had gambled on the Internet, with higher rates among males (5.8%) compared to females (2.3%). In southern Quebec the Lower Ordovician or Beekmantown series consists of a thick sequence of dolomite beds with minor amounts of sandstone, limestone and shale. By comparison with Lower Ordovician strata elsewhere, the Beekmantown in southern Quebec is relatively unfossiliferous. As a result, interest in the group has been slight. This study is a dissertation on the stratigraphy and palaeontology of the Beekmantown group as exposed in the Quebec portion of the St. Lawrence Lowlands.  Read more

The Zen (Ch'an) poets Han-shan (circa 6th-9 thC.) and Ryokan (1758-1831) participate in literary activity, reclusion, and ordinary emotions in a manner that questions their typical image as models of transcendence. They participate in literary activity without attachment to either linguistic adequacy or a dualistic notion of "beyond words," and poetry serves as their mode of communication from reclusion. Reclusion is a context to realize the nature of the conventional world rather than a means of transcendence to an ultimate realm and is significant as a social and political act. Although Salmonella pullorum has for many years been the subject of much investigation resulting in the accumulation or considerable knowledge of its various characteristics, there still exists some confusion regarding its exact recognition. This, and the fact that the genus Salmonella has undergone radical change through the newer methods of antigenic analysis stimulated particularly by White and Kauffmann, seemed to warrant a reinvestigation of the fermentation and agglutination reactions of Salmonella pullorum. Alexithymia is a personality construct characterized by a deficit in the cognitive processing and regulation of emotion. The well documented association of alexithymia with illness has prompted investigations into pathways that might explain this association, such as physiological mechanisms or increased illness behaviour.
