Abstract
MS. J.II.9 (also known as the “Cyprus Codex”) is an anonymous Codex composed in the court of Nicosia in the first part of the 15th century during Cyprus’s Frankish period and the Lusignan Dynasty. It is the only known Codex of Western music in the region and one of the few exclusively French codices known from that time. Its style lies in the threshold between Ars Nova and Ars Subtilior with unique features. Composer Evis Sammoutis, violinist Peter Sheppard Skaerved and Music technology professor Timothy Hsu have built a collaboration inspired by the legacy of MS. J.II.9. This resulted in the creation of new bows and techniques of performing the violin and the creation of new compositions based both on the material from MS. J.II.9 and technological advancements.

Résumé
Le manuscrit MS. J.II.9 (aussi connu sous le nom de « Codex de Chypre ») est un codex anonyme composé à la Cour de Nicosie au début du xve siècle, durant la période franconienne et le règne de la Dynastie des Lusignan. Il s’agit du seul codex de musique occidentale retrouvé dans la région et de l’un des rares codex exclusivement rédigés en français à cette époque. Son style se situe à l’intersection de l’Ars Nova et de l’Ars Subtilior, et comporte des caractéristiques uniques. Le compositeur Evis Sammoutis, le violoniste Peter Sheppard Skaerved et le professeur en technologies musicales Timothy Hsu ont établi une collaboration inspirée par l’héritage du manuscrit MS. J.II.9, qui mena à la création de nouveaux archets et de nouvelles techniques de jeu pour le violon, ainsi qu’à la composition de nouvelles oeuvres basées à la fois sur du matériel extrait du manuscrit MS. J.II.9 et sur les avancées de la technologie.
