Bàmmeelu Kocc Barma de Boubacar Boris Diop ou comment écrire un roman postmoderne en wolof

Résumé

Cet article soutient que la postmodernité littéraire n’est pas une caractéristique exclusive des littératures écrites en langue européenne. Nous y montrons, en prenant l’exemple de Bàmmeelu Kocc Barma de Boubacar Boris Diop, qu’un roman africain écrit en wolof peut révéler une certaine postmodernité grâce à l’usage de procédés comme l’hybridité et l’intermédialité qui démontrent l’universalité d’un concept qui n’est pas l’apanage de certaines cultures et sociétés. L’article analyse les techniques postmodernes utilisées par Diop pour faire ainsi de son deuxième ouvrage en wolof un véritable roman-essai.

Abstract

This article tries to show that literary postmodernity is not an exclusive characteristic of literatures written in European languages. By taking the example of Bàmmeelu Kocc Barma by Boubacar Boris Diop, this article argues that a novel written in an African language can display several features of postmodernity thanks to the use of techniques such as hybridity and intermediality which demonstrate that postmodernity is universal, and that a limited number of cultures and societies cannot lay sole claim to it. The article analyses these postmodern techniques which therefore make of Diop’s second work in Wolof a true cross between the two genres of the novel and the essay.
