TRANSITIONS FAMILIALES ET DÉVELOPPEMENT DE L’ENFANT : LES ENJEUX POUR L’INTERVENTION

Résumé

Ce texte porte sur la séparation parentale dans ses effets pour l’enfant et dans ses enjeux pour l’intervention socio-juridique. Une mise en perspective de la séparation dans le cycle des transitions familiales qui l’entourent est d’abord présentée. Les facteurs en cause dans l’augmentation du risque d’inadaptation chez l’enfant sont ensuite discutés et les grandes lignes des résultats de la recherche sur les facteurs de protection sont esquissées. Enfin, quatre enjeux pour l’intervention sont dégagés : 1) la nécessité d’une représentation juste du phénomène; 2) l’implication des acteurs dans la recherche de leur solution; 3) la lutte contre l’appauvrissement familial par la protection des acquis; et 4) la valorisation des petits pas vers une solution acceptable pour tous.

Abstract

This article deals with the effects of parental separation for the child, and its implications for interventions of a socio-legal nature. It begins with an overview of the phenomenon of separation within the cycle of family transitions. Risk factors associated with psychosocial maladjustment in children which result from parental separation are then discussed and general trends suggested by the research on protective factors are summarized. Four implications for socio-legal interventions are discussed, namely : 1) the need for an accurate qualification of the phenomenon, 2) the involvement of the parties concerned in the pursuit of a solution, 3) the avoidance of impoverishment by ensuring the protection of familial resources, and 4) the reinforcement of any progress, no matter how limited, towards any arrangement acceptable to all concerned.
