Abstract
In the scientific literature, few studies focus on adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). To our knowledge, no research examines the influence of the adaptative, intellectual and language functioning of adults with ASD on their quality of life. The present study aims to is to examine whether the adaptative, intellectual and language profiles of adults with ASD exert an influence on their quality of life. The sample is composed of 19 parent-adult dyads. Three instruments were used with adults and questionnaires were also completed by the parents. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations and multiple linear regressions were performed to meet the objectives. The results show a significant and negative association between nonverbal reasoning and the domain of the interpersonal relations. Another significant and positive association is found between expressive and receptive language skills and the domain of self-determination. Finally, a significant and positive association is obtained between receptive language skills and the domain of interpersonal relations. In short, certain characteristics of the intellectual and language functioning of influence certain areas of their quality of life. This research provides a better understanding of the influence of adaptative, intellectual and language functioning on the quality of life of adults with ASD.
