The Government in Rome from 88 - 82 B.C. is a politically important period to students of Roman History, since it is the only period when the Democratic Party was in complete control of affairs. During the past five years the continuous flow of data from the Arctic region has made possible a more reliable daily synoptic analysis bath for the surface and upper levels. Much work has already been done to establish the monthly and seasonal broad-scale features of the lower and mid-troposphere, and to study in greater detail the perturbations. Since the early 1900s, a controversy has existed among educational psychologists concerning the relative merits of the so-called "direct" and "indirect" methods of second-language teaching. The indirect method, widely used in public schools, involves learning the new language vocabulary by translation, through the presentation of foreign words together with their semantic equivalents in the native language. The direct method, favored by many theorists, is intended to approximate the method of learning a first language. The work to be presented in this thesis forms part of a larger program of research carried out in this laboratory on mechanisms of homeostasis. The fact that the catecholamines play a part in these mechanisms is undisputed, yet much remains to be understood regarding their role. The more specific object of the present studies was to obtain information with respect to the part played by nutritional factors in the biosynthesis of adrenaline and noradrenaline and also to investigate the possibility that more than one pathway for their synthesis exists. This study investigates the shearing strength of two types of soil as determined by the unconfined compression test and the double ring shear test, together with the stress-strain modulus as determined from the slope of the unconfined compression curve. Laboratory investigations were conducted on loosely compacted sand samples, dense sand samples and clay samples, all of which were cured and tested under two temperature conditions - 0°F. and 24°F.
