1975 — The approach of the Reichs Marine Amt to Chinapolitik, 1894-1897Résumé
Reichs Marine Amt (RMA) Chinapolitik marked the first attempt ofthe German navy to involve itself in international affairs. OfficialReich China policy was passive: the government did not interferein Oriental probelms and allowed any Sino-German links to beforged by the commercial community. The RMA had a two-foldreason for challenging this policy -- it wished to occupy astrategic FlottenstU.tzpunkt in North China from which the dominationof Shantung could eventually be directed. Despite officialopposition to this scheme, the RMA continued to plan for themilitary occupation of Kiaochow until the murder of the missionariesin November, 1897 forced the Reich to agree to intervention in … Lire la suite

1975 — Effects of vertical linear accelerations on motor controls in the cat.Résumé
Experiments have been performed to examine the effects of vertical linear accelerations on motor control in the cat. Examination of electromyographic activity in 2 opposing pairs of muscles in the neck and hindlimb of alert cats undergoing sudden, unexpected falls has demonstrated that electrical activation of all muscles tested occurred in 2 distinct phases. The earlier was otolith-dependent, whereas the later activity apparently did not originate in the labyrinth. Smooth landings from short falls were not possible in the absence of either phase of the response. Observation of the head and neck of the above cats while falling demonstrated a … Lire la suite

1975 — Panspecific immunosuppression and neoplastic enhancementRésumé
This study was divided into three separate sections. PAR T I examined the production of a state, of hypogammaglobulinemia within a murine model. By sequential treatment of newborn mice with heterologous anti-mouse immunoglobulin M (IgM), panspecific immunosuppression ensued. This was documented by assaying serum immunoglobulin levels, and by comparing these values to macroscopic and microscopic parameters. PART II examined the growth characteristics of two solid neoplasms. By careful selection of the relevant conditions, a change in tumor growth was achieved by immunological manipulation. With the tumor, P-815-X2, this satisfied the definition of neoplastic enhancement. With the tumor T1699 enhancement of … Lire la suite

1975 — Towards Conceptual Clarification of Social Work MethodRésumé
The problem explored here is method in social work specifically, method viewed as a procedure, a series of steps and techniques, in casework and family work. The purpose in this exploration is to examine significant similarities and differences among the methods described in four major schools of casework and family work, with a view to searching for core similarities that may link their methods together. 1975 — Development and Validation of the School Social Work Q-SortRésumé
In response to an interest in evaluating school social work service, its approach and training as provided by the HcGill University School of Social Work, an attempt at developing and validating the School Social Work Q-Sort w~s made. This effort was seen as an initial step in working tmvards a 'teacher measure' to supplement objective outcome measures that may be used in the evaluation. The main aim was in developing an instrument for describing and evaluating the effort and impact of the Inter-Professional Collaborative Approach, through a reliable and relevant group of respondents. By enlisting the teachers' help in sorting … Lire la suite

1975 — An intracellular study of the actions of anesthetics on spinal monosynaptic transmission.Résumé
