The structure of the carbohydrate associated with glycoproteins was examined in various human colonic tumour cells in culture following incubation with labeled sugars. Glycopeptides obtained by pronase digestion of the cell surface glycoproteins of three human colon tumours (HCT-8R, CaCo-2, and HCT-15) were compared with those from cells (CCL 239) derived normal adult colon. The tumour cells contain large molecular weight fucose-labeled glycopeptides that are absent in the CCL 239 cells. The large molecular weight fucose- and glucosamine-labeled glycopeptides from HCT-8R cells contain mainly mild alkali labile O-linked oligosaccharides, whereas those isolated from CaCo-2 cells contain primarily N-linked polylactosaminoglycans which … Lire la suite

This qualitative naturalistic research study investigated peer interaction and its relationship to the learning of Logo geometry concepts within an elementary school computer lab classroom environment. The work of four focal children (10-11 years old) and their partners was analyzed. A crucial requirement for the stepwise, continued growth of a brain tumor is the acquisition of a blood supply from the host, i.e. angiogenesis. The mechanisms of copper activity linked to neovascular and neoplastic growth are largely unknown. Copper ion was shown to be a cofactor for angiogenesis. We tested the effect of copper depletion achieved by a low copper diet and a copper chelator D-penicillamine, on the intracerebral growth of two experimental brain tumors. This thesis proposes a quantitative model of fatigue crack initiation and early propagation based on a plastic strain intensity factor $ Delta{K} sb{p}$. 1988 — Binding interactions of bile acids and bile pigments with aminesRésumé
The binding of selected bile acids and bile pigments by peptides and quaternary amines has been studied by adsorption and NMR experiments. Novel adsorbents with quaternized peptide-containing functional groups for bile acids have been prepared by solid phase peptide synthesis techniques. The adsorption studies, conducted in aqueous buffer solutions, show that these resins have an enhanced capacity, on a per active site basis, and improved specificity over cholestyramine and colestipol. The interaction between bile acid anions and the pendants is predominantly ionic linkage, although hydrophobic and other interactions are also important. This thesis is devoted to the optimal commitment of generation units in an all-thermal, single or multiple area, power system. The problem, known as unit commitment, is a nonlinear mixed program typically with thousands of 0-1 integer variables and diverse constraints. An exact optimal solution to the problem is only possible via (explicit or implicit) enumeration, which requires a prohibitively long computation time for large problem instances. Two optimization approaches, Lagrangian relaxation and simulated annealing, are explored in this thesis for efficient and near-optimal unit commitment. The purpose of the present study is to analyze the structural techniques and genre of Chekhov's plays. The many books and articles published on Chekhov's plays far exceeds his own works. Although there have been numerous studies analyzing the structural techniques of his play, considerable controversy still exists among literary and theatre scholars regarding the genre of his plays. Most of the studies simply avoid this complex and intricate problem.
