This dissertation examines the link between the invention of adolescence in the 19th century, the advent of the adolescent character, and the renewal of the French novel in the first decades of the 20th century. Between 1880 and 1930, the emergence of the concept of adolescence (due to factors of a legislative, scientific, and socio-economic nature) creates a new interest for the uncertain, malleable, undefined, and irrational aspects of personality. La présence de transitions divergentes dans les échantillons postérieurs générés par Stan compromet les propriétés d’échantillons finis des estimateurs HMC à cause d’une perte d’ergodicité géométrique. Même si ces divergences sont très utiles pour identifier des problèmes avec l’exploration de la distribution postérieure, il n’existe pas encore de méthode claire pour diminuer ou éliminer ces transitions divergentes pour un modèle général. Cependant, en tant que l’un des «huit grands» aliments allergiques, il peut entraîner une série de réactions allergiques, notamment une anaphylaxie légère à potentiellement fatale. "This thesis centers on the non-practice of female genital mutilation (FGM) in Conakry, Guinea, with the aim of making recommendations for a generation without mutilation. Background. FGM can be harmful to girls’/women’s health. In Guinea, the prevalence of FGM is very high and social pressure to have girls cut is strong. The practice of FGM is justified by sociocultural arguments, such as the belief that it would guarantee girls/women's appropriate sexual behavior. This contrasts with the experience of their peers, who tend to stay at home up until age 29 and remain interdependent on their support networks throughout their adult lives. Nous considérons tout d'abord les dualités distordues, qui mettent en jeu une théorie de la gravitation dans un espace anti-de Sitter déformé qui s'avère jouer un rôle dans la description de la région près de l'horizon du trou noir de Kerr extrême. Currently, two-dimensional materials and some material surfaces are under intense study due to quantum effects brought upon by their low dimensionality. Experimentally, the “topological” properties of these systems can be modified and probed by electromagnetic interactions. The terahertz (THz) frequency range is well-suited for this task, with many material energy scales in this regime and large low-frequency electric and magnetic fields able to be applied. Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a currently incurable neurodegenerative disorder that manifests in the elderly through motor symptoms of bradykinesia, rigidity and tremor. Those symptoms are caused by a dopamine (DA) deficit, which leads to ineffective neural motor function. Intriguingly, certain DA neuronal populations involved in the disease will die whilst others nearby that are very similar will survive. One of the prevalent theories explaining this selective death is the mitochondrial stress hypothesis, where affected neurons are more susceptible to mitochondrial damage. Regional scenes boasted their own MCs (rappers) whose individual musical styles grew increasingly sophisticated and diverse. From approximately 2000 onward, a variety of factors have moved hip-hop music into an era of post-regionalism. Artists from disparate geographic regions routinely collaborate with one another, and the internet’s ability to facilitate virtual musical communities and genres has arguably rendered the idea of local space in hip hop less and less important. Geopolitical uncertainty of crude oil makes CH4 a reliable feed for petrochemicals. Direct non-oxidative conversion of CH4 to petrochemical feedstocks like ethylene and aromatics, is not only greenhouse gas emission-free but also produces valuable H2 gas. The objective of this study was to determine the role of GCN2 in the response to AA deprivation of primary bovine mammary epithelial cells (BMEC). Cells were isolated from the mammary tissue of 2 lactating Holstein cows by enzymatic digestion, expanded, and induced to differentiate for 5-7 d. Relative mRNA expression was measured by real-time quantitative PCR. Protein abundance and site-specific phosphorylation were measured by immunoblotting. Knockout of GCN2 in BMEC was accomplished by lentiviral delivery of a targeted single guide RNA and endonuclease Cas9. Unlike other major refugee groups in the region, such as Palestinians or, more recently, Syrians, Iraqis in Jordan during this period were overwhelmingly educated, middle-class professionals. They self-settled throughout Amman and were generally financially better off than many of their Jordanian hosts. Pour cette recherche, les SBP de pain de blé entier et de pain blanc ont été étudiées et comparées aux trois niveaux de concentrations de 5%, 10% et 20% en solution aqueuse. Les propriétés rhéologiques ont été évaluées par des essais d'écoulement et de dynamiques. A shift towards automated detection of low-level issues (e.g., integration with linters) has, in theory, freed reviewers up to focus on higher level issues, such as software design. Background: Among women with chest pain and non-obstructive coronary arteries (NOCAD), approximately 50% have evidence of coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD), which carries a heightened risk for long-term cardiovascular events. Current diagnostic tools used in the assessment of women with chest pain and NOCAD are invasive and have provided conflicting results. Oxygen sensitive magnetic resonance imaging (OS-CMR) using hyperventilation/breath-hold manoeuvres is an emerging technique that allows for a non-invasive assessment of myocardial oxygenation. Cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada with the head and neck cancer (HNC) ranked seventh in the rate of incidence. More than 90% of HNCs are squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) with an overall survival rate of 64.5%. One suggested cause for cancer treatment failure is the limitation of chemotherapy (CT) efficacy by its severe toxic side effects as the conventional treatment will cause damage to non-cancerous cells along with the cancer cells. The High Energy Light Isotope eXperiment (HELIX) is a balloon-borne detector, currently in development, to measure the chemical and isotopic abundances of light cosmic-ray nuclei. One of the primary goals is to measure the 10Be/9Be ratio for 0.2-10 GeV/n over two flights. 10Be is a radioactive isotope with a half-life of 1.39 Myr so its abundance, compared to the stable 9Be, constrains cosmic-ray propagation models. HELIX consists of a 1 Tesla superconducting magnet and a drift chamber tracker to measure the particle rigidity. Alzheimer disease (AD) is the world’s most common form of dementia (43.8 million affected as of 2016) and, due to rapidly aging populations, the incidence and socioeconomic burden of this disease is expected to dramatically increase by 2050 (projection is 100 million affected). A critical event in the pathogenesis of AD is the accumulation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides as toxic Aβ oligomers in the brain which ultimately lead to neuronal damage and synaptic loss. The historical marginalization of females in sport and physical activity has led to the creation of physical education programs that maintain these gender ideologies. Research has shown a steep decline in physical activity participation during adolescence, especially amongst girls. Single-sex physical education programs have been documented as spaces that provide females with better learning opportunities. This thesis focuses on investigating product availability and sales dynamics under the fast-fashion retailing setting with three research projects. In the first study, we focus on analyzing the impact of neighboring outlets’ product shortages on a focal store’s sales in the setting of a multi-store fast fashion retailing chain. Our analysis reveals that sales for a particular item at a focal store increases when that same item experiences stock-outs in neighboring stores, especially so for neighboring stores that are physically closer to the focal store. However,programmers write proofs as total recursive programs. Phosphorus loss from agricultural fields is one of the main contributors to the rapid eutrophication of lakes and rivers. There exists an urgent need for cost-effective novel materials as soil amendments to mitigate phosphorus loss. Lime-based products, as high calcium-containing materials, could be promising soil amendments in retaining phosphorus in the soil. However, limited study has been conducted on lime as a phosphorus-immobilizing amendment in neutral and alkaline soils. Le diagnostic d'hypersensibilité à l'amoxicilline est difficile chez les enfants étant donné que la sensibilité des tests cutanés disponibles dans le commerce est faible et que les tests de provocation orales (TPO) sont souvent nécessaires pour établir le diagnostic. Dans cette dissertation, nous tenterons de décomposer la complexe étiologie du TDAH et de la réponse au traitement pharmacologique en combinant différentes approches afin d’élucider le rôle de certains gènes candidats. Background: The use of involuntary hospitalization and treatment in psychiatry remains a controversial issue. While some have argued for their importance in prevention of harm, others have cited the inconclusive evidence for their effectiveness as highly problematic. Youth with first-episode psychosis (FEP) represent a group whose engagement in services is particularly important as it is often their first time encountering mental health care. The use of coercive measures such as involuntary hospitalization and treatment has been largely under-studied in this population.
