The Munro "A" asbestos orebody is located in Munro Township, 13 miles east of Matheson in the district of Cochrane, Northern Ontario. Matheson is 206 miles by rail north of North Bay. It is also served by Highway #11 (Fergus on Highway), being 321 miles north of Toronto, and also by Highway #101, which will eventually run from Timmins, through Matheson, to the Quebec border. Sirius on Earth is a chamber opera that deals satirically with social and political issues that are pertinent to a Western multicultural urban setting. Angela Murphy wrote the libretto, which is based on an original dramatic scenario conceived of by the composer. This dissertation consists of two parts: the opera in full score and an analysis of the opera. Sirius on Earth is scored for a cast of eight singers and an ensemble of fifteen players. Souvenirs du vent is a composition for soprano and chamber orchestra with a duration of approximately 16'.30". The piece consists of three movements, a prelude, two interludes and a postlude. The poems set in the three movements were chosen for their similar subject matter, the wind. This common subject is emphasized by a music in which both the large-scale and small-scale formal divisions are blurred through structural counterpoint. The poets of the three poems are all from the Montreal area; they are: Emile Nelligan, Claude Brouille and Remi-Paul Forgues.  Lire la suite

There are a number of reasons for the choice of the epidermis of the mouse as the site for experimental tumour production in this study. Experimental epidermal tumours have been studied so intensively that a vast amount of useful information about them is available. The past work has characterized these tumours so well as to give a firm foundation to any expansion of previous achievements. The problem of carcinogenesis is an extremely wide and complex one and is unlikely to be solved by one man using one experimental model. On the other hand, it seems preferable to choose one model and explore its possibilities thoroughly before discarding it in the hope that there may be a common denominator to all carcinogenic processes. Lors de l'ovulation, les CC sécrètent une matrice extracellulaire riche en hyaluronane et s'éloignent de l'ovocyte. Ce processus, appelé expansion des cumulus, est essentiel à l’ovulation et à la fécondation. En aval du stimulus ovulatoire, la signalisation du récepteur de facteur de croissance épidermique (R-EGF) initie l'expansion, mais la manière dont cette signalisation déclenche le déplacement des cellules du cumulus est mal comprise. A mining complex can be defined as an integrated logistics network or mineral value chain in which material extracted from one or more open-pit and or underground mines is routed through stockpiles and processing destinations and ultimately converted into saleable products delivered to customers or to a spot market. Within this network, simultaneous stochastic optimization is introduced to generate a life-of-asset production schedule that jointly determines extraction sequencing, destination policies, and downstream decisions while explicitly accounting for uncertain supply via sets of simulated scenarios describing geological variability. Niobium, originally called columbium, is an important element used in alloying and currently mineral from three deposits, two in Brazil and one in Canada “Niobec”. The current production rates of niobium are considered sufficient to meet the global demand. However, this may not always be the case. The minerals containing the highest amount of niobium are pyrochlore and columbite. The main method for their recovery is flotation, utilized by all three processing plants. The purpose of this study was to assess body-image attitudes and the extent of obligatory exercise among physically active women, and to examine interrelationships among these variables, and age differences. The sample included one hundred and eighty-three female exercise participants, aged 18 to 71 years. The Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire was used to assess subjective body-image attitudes. The Obligatory Exercise Questionnaire was used to assess extent of obligatory exercise behavior. It was found that the majority of physically active women are generally satisfied with most aspects of their body images. Background: Depression is one of the most prevalent psychiatric disorders worldwide and a leading cause of global disease burden. Depression is also associated with several physical health issues, including an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. One pathway linking depression with type 2 diabetes is dysregulations in cardiometabolic functioning. The long-held notion that gifted students prefer to work alone is reported in several general textbooks on gifted children. However, studies addressing this issue are mixed and certainly not conclusive. Earlier studies disagree on whether those gifted children who claim a preference for working alone do so as a function of grade and maturational stage, sex, or personality characteristics commensurate with increasingly higher IQs. The current study re-examines this notion through the lens of motivation through social-constructivist theory. Evgenii Zamiatin's Islanders (Ostrovitiane 1917) is a novella that has largely been ignored, overshadowed by the writer's best known dystopian novel We (My 1920-21). Yet the novella reveals a wealth of themes, stylistic and linguistic innovations, that were to reach full fruition in We. Thus, it appears to be appropriate and profitable for a broadening of Zamiatin research to conduct a chronotopic analysis of Islanders, which enables a comprehensive investigation, incorporating thematic, stylistic, and linguistic facets of the novella. The future electron-positron International Linear Collider (ILC) is a high precision machine requiring high resolution detectors. It has a broad physics program covering topics such as precision measurements of the Higgs Boson and possible detection of Dark Matter or supersymmetric particles. New detector concepts have to be developed to meet the very stringent requirements. For optimised event reconstruction innovative Particle Flow algorithms will have to be applied to all detector systems. The international CALICE collaboration is developing highly granular calorimeter detectors for that purpose. Gonadotropic activity in human pregnancy urine was demonstrated for the first time by Aschheim and Zondek in 1927 by injecting unaltered urine into immature female rats. The early subsequent work was concerned mostly with gonadotropins secreted in large amounts by the human placenta. Pituitary gonadotropins, however, occur in much smaller amounts in human urine. They therefore must be concentrated from urine in order to be demonstrable by bioassay methods. The concentration of urinary extract, in turn, requires detoxification in order to allow the laboratory animals to survive several injections.  Lire la suite

Recent human and animal studies indicate that n-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LCPUFA) can help maintain bone mineral density (BMD) in adulthood and during aging, however the effects of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on bone during and after maturation are unclear. The objectives for this study were to determine the effects of increasing doses of DHA on bone mass accretion in young female rats during and after sexual maturation and to establish potential biochemical mechanisms by which DHA affects growing bone. Objective: To develop a model of chronic jaw muscle allodynia using acidic saline infusion in humans. Methods: Buffered acidic (pH 5.1) or normal (pH 7.2) saline was infused into the masseter of 20 healthy subjects for 20 minutes. Sensory and motor tasks were conducted prior to infusion and 1, 24, 48, and 72 hours post-infusion. Results: Acidic saline induced mild pain during infusion, discomfort during motor tasks and mild allodynia that lasted for at least 24 hours. Jules Romains s'est convaincu qu'il a subi une expérience de ce genre, et il veut en faire part aux autres. Pour cette tâche il lui fallait un style nouveau, qui ne naquit pas tout parfait avec les premiers éclairs de son expérience, mais il se développa à mesure que sa vision devint plus précise. Little is known about the human orbitofrontal cortex and its role in encoding information, although studies in the monkey suggest that it plays an important role in memory. Neuroimaging techniques have been used to study markers of post-stroke neurological and motor impairment. Previous studies have shown that anatomical markers such as stroke size and lesion load (LL) correlate with post-stroke neurological and upper-limb motor deficits. The latter has been studied extensively, however, correlations to lower-limb motor impairment have are poorly understood. Additionally, there is a relationship between resting-state functional connectivity (rs-FC) and post-stroke impairment.
