    2013 — The role of DNA-methyltransferase 3-like (DNMT3L) in the establishment and stability of DNA Methylation patterns in the male germline

    The enzyme DNA methyltransferase 3-like (DNMT3L) is essential for de novo DNA methylation in germ cells, proper germ cell development, and has been reported as the first paternal effect gene in mammals. In mice, although Dnmt3L heterozygous or haploinsufficient (+/-) males are fertile, there are associated chromosomal compaction abnormalities and the males have been shown to sire an increased number of aneuploid offspring even if the offspring do not possess the mutant allele (the paternal effect).     1999 — Changes of lipopolysaccharide of Salmonella enterica grown under different conditions

    The incidence of foodborne disease caused by Salmonella enterica is increasing yearly, despite the growing body of information regarding these most common pathogens. We examined the growth of, and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) expression of three Salmonella species (S. typhimurium, S. enteritidis , and S. blockley) grown at different pH values and temperatures and to different stages of the growth cycle. Growth conditions were found to affect the compositions of the LPS molecules produced by the organisms. Energy homeostasis is mediated by a network of hormonal signals that originates from many tissues, including white adipose tissue (WAT). Acylation stimulating protein (ASP) is a lipogenic hormone secreted by WAT that stimulates triglyceride (TG) storage (i.e. non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) trapping) by increasing glucose uptake and NEFA esterification.     Additional studies were undertaken on the nature of a nephritogenic agent found in the culture filtrates of certain group A streptococci. A commercially available dehydrated medium proved satisfactory for the production of the active material. Gel filtration was used to divide crude extracts, prepared from the diffusible portion of culture filtrates, into two major fractions.     This thesis develops improved stochastic models for the description of a large variety of fatigue crack growth phenomena that occur in structural and mechanical components of fundamental importance to the functionality and reliability of complex and modern engineering structures. In essence, the models are based upon the recently available McGill-Markov and the newly developed Closure-Lognormal stochastic processes.     L'épigénétique, l'étude des changements héréditaires dans l'expression des gènes qui ne sont pas provoqués par des altérations de la séquence d'ADN, est un domaine en pleine croissance qui a été particulièrement étudié dans le contexte du cancer. La dérégulation de l'épigénome est connue pour être un mécanisme pivot dans le cancer, il est donc important de détecter les gènes modificateurs de l'épigénome, leur rôle dans l'oncogenèse et leur effet final sur l'épigénome et le transcriptome.     Social workers with a bachelor-level education regularly work with trauma-affected populations, yet little is known about the trauma-related training they receive in their generalist education to prepare them to provide adequate trauma support while maintaining their well-being. As such, this research project aims to understand the current state of trauma education in Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) programs in North America, with a particular focus on the local landscape in Quebec.
