2018 — Topic Modelling and Sentiment Analysis with the Bangla Language: A Deep Learning Approach Combined with the Latent Dirichlet AllocationRésumé
In this thesis, the Bangla language topic modelling and sentiment analysis has been researched. It has two contributions lining up together. In this regard, we have proposed different models for both the topic modelling and the sentiment analysis task. Many research exist for both of these works but they do not address the Bangla language. Topic modelling is a powerful technique for unsupervised analysis of large document collections. There are various efficient topic modelling techniques available for the English language as it is one of the most spoken languages in the whole world, but not for the other spoken languages. … Lire la suite

2018 — Detection of Texture-less Occluded Objects Using Deep Convolutional Neural NetworksRésumé
Nowadays, modern object classification algorithms can outsmart humans for classification of simple non-occluded objects. Machines, however, are still unable to accomplish complex tasks, such as classification and localization of occluded objects with precision, which human beings can easily perform. In order to achieve this task, convolutional neural networks based object detection algorithms have recently opened a new avenue towards the object detection with high precision. The convolutional neural networks require a large amount of training data to train system for classification and localization. However, the main objective of this thesis is to examine the convolutional neural network based object detection … Lire la suite

2018 — Glimpses of Pashtunwali in Hosseini's The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hashimi's A House Without Windows and Ackerman's Green on BlueRésumé
Writers and scholars have used a variety of approaches to understand novels written in English about Afghanistan. One approach that most of the writers have used is the sociocultural approach. My approach is quite similar to other researchers but my framework is different. My work focuses on an unwritten code of life, Pashtunwali, which the Pashtuns of Afghanistan have been practicing for centuries. This code strictly guides the lives of Pashtun people living in Afghanistan and North-West Pakistan. By using the framework of Pashtunwali, this thesis provides a new perspective and understanding of Hosseini, Hashimi, and Ackerman’s novels. It not … Lire la suite

2018 — Modified Hopfield Networks for Integrated Process Planning and SchedulingRésumé
In production systems, process planning and scheduling are the two core functions that must be implemented before starting a production. The process planning generates a suitable process plan for each part that indicates the sequences of machining operations of the part, and the suitable machines and tools for that operations. This plan depends on the available manufacturing resources and their operation time. The scheduling, then, specifies the timetable of each operation from the process plans’ information. A significant conflict during the scheduling process is that some determined resources are not valid or overloaded because the process planning intentionally specifies the … Lire la suite

2018 — Oral Storytelling and Intergenerational Learning Among Abam PeopleRésumé
This study explored oral storytelling and intergenerational learning among the Abam (Indigenous people of the Igbo tribe of Nigeria). I embarked on this study based on my experience with the Abam people and because of my concerns that oral storytelling traditions seemed to be less prevalent these days. This study was guided by postcolonial theories by Frantz Fanon and Paulo Freire. These theorists portray formally colonized people as living in the ideals of the colonizers even after they achieved independence. An Indigenous qualitative research approach was used in data collection. In line with the epistemologies of Abam people, I adopted … Lire la suite

2018 — Performance of Dependent Bootstrap Confidence Intervals For Generalized Gamma MeansRésumé
In lifetime data analysis (e.g. survival analysis, reliability analysis) the Generalized Gamma distribution is a versatile lifetime distribution that includes the Exponential, Gamma, and Weibull distributions as special cases. In such analyses, as with most statistical analyses, it is often important to gauge the accuracy and precision of the resulting estimates. One of the most common ways of doing this is by constructing confidence intervals. Theoretical approaches are not always appropriate in practice and computational methods are needed. Some of the most common methods utilize bootstrap sampling procedures. Through systematic testing, this research looked for general rules of when various … Lire la suite

2018 — A Politics of Inwardness: Rousseau and Kierkegaard in DialogueRésumé
This thesis draws out some political implications of Kierkegaard’s concepts of faith, identity, and ethics. It does so by positioning Kierkegaard alongside Rousseau, whose work evinces a conflict over whether a good person can also be a good citizen. Via Rousseau, Kierkegaard’s religious individual is examined from a political perspective, putting in a new light some of the concerns that Kierkegaard’s believer is unsuitable and even noxious to political life. Kierkegaard’s own critique of Rousseau’s ideal citizen as amoral is then posited as a reason to reject Rousseau’s citizen as an alternative to the life of faith. Finally, Kierkegaard’s believer … Lire la suite
