AbstractAs the Malacca and Singapore Straits are part of the shortest route between Europe and Asia, any impedance to shipping has serious military and commercial repercussions. A series of issues are raised : what are the major threats to maritime security and sea lines of communications ; what measures have been taken to protect navigational safety; and what would be the consequences to tankers and container shipping if access was restricted or prohibited ? These issues are addressed by examining navigational safety and oil pollution, piracy and armed robbery, and the measures taken by the littoral and user states in combating them. An assessment of the cost of using alternative routes to the Straits is made. Distinctions are explored between tanker and container shipping to challenge the conventional wisdom on choke-points.

The claim to the status of a global and sovereign power is at the heart of Vladimir Putin's geopolitical project for his country since his arrival in the Kremlin in 2000. In the competition that today opposes Russia to asserted or rising powers, global or regional, on the international stage, Russia has undeniable assets, but it must also deal with weaknesses. This dossier examines through the lens of the perspective of the resurgence of power five fields invested by the Kremlin in its logic of recomposition of influence: Eurasia, the deployment of a soft power by Moscow, the Asian vector of Russia's foreign policy, the Russian nuclear posture and the cyberspace. Through the analysis of successes and failures as well as the formulation of perspectives for each of these themes, this dossier aims at offering a better grasp of the contours of a Russian power redefining itself in the face of the new international disorder.

This article offers a reflection on the effects of right-wing energy populism in the contemporary United States. The power and influence of right-wing energy populism undermines the ability of the US to adopt a long-term and consistent decarbonization strategy, for four reasons: 1) It may cause decarbonization policies to be discontinued; 2) It partially shapes decarbonization policies put in place by Democrats, who are unwilling to be accused of destroying the American way of life; 3) It runs counter to Democratic claims to US climate leadership on the world stage; and 4) It makes it less likely that the US will accede to requests for financial aid for adaptation and mitigation made by many developing countries.
