Since 2015, the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) has produced visual presentations of the history of 40 Montréal theatres founded between 1825 and 1930. Produced in collaboration with four partners from three Québec universities, this research project highlights the cultural, social and commercial history of these venues using the institution's collections and archival records. The author describes how this project began, then contextualises the use of ephemera and images with respect to the historical and document-use considerations. The collaboration with the universities, namely the Laboratoire d'histoire et de patrimoine de Montréal at the UQAM, is discussed. The use of Historypin and Story Maps, free web sites, as well as the document and scientific spin-offs the project are also presented.
