Introduction: The requirement of a university degree as the entry standard to the nursing profession is regularly debated in Quebec (Canada). Several recommendations have been made to increase the proportion of nurses with a bachelor’s degree in nursing given the increasing complexity of care. The literature cites many factors that discourage nurses from returning to nursing studies, but what are the strategies to encourage them to do so? Objective: To describe the state of knowledge on the strategies that have facilitated the return to school for nurses pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing, as tested and evaluated in empirical studies. Method: Integrative literature review conducted using the Whittemore and Knafl (2005) method, accompanied by a literature search in 6 databases. Results: On a total of 2545 publications identified, 27 studies were retained. Among the strategies, new baccalaureate programs based on a partnership model, the use of motivational interviews and the support offered by relatives of nursing students were found. Discussion and Conclusion: Four categories (academic, organizational, individual and mixed) highlights tested and evaluated strategies for facilitating nurses’ return to school.

Objectives: This prospective longitudinal study aimed to explore the role of family relationships (romantic satisfaction and mother-infant bonding) and psychological distress in the associations between four child maltreatment (CM) subtypes (sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, neglect) and early child abuse potential in young mothers. Methods: A sample of 85 pregnant mothers (18-29 years old) was recruited to complete an online survey at Time 1 (T1); 57 mothers participated at T2 (3 months postpartum). The survey documented experiences of CM, prenatal romantic satisfaction, postnatal psychological distress, mother-infant bonding, and child abuse potential using validated questionnaires. Results: Four sequential mediation models were tested, one for each CM subtype. Results show that a maternal history of CM (all subtypes) was indirectly associated with heightened child abuse potential three months postpartum. All CM subtypes were negatively related to prenatal romantic satisfaction, which was in turn negatively associated with postnatal psychological distress. Postnatal psychological distress was related to lower mother-infant bonding which, in turn, was related to increased child abuse potential. The complete sequential model was significant for physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, while a partial sequence was identified with neglect. Implications: Our results are consistent with theoretical models and empirical findings demonstrating the importance of relational factors and mental health in the intergenerational continuity of CM. While our findings await replication, they emphasize the need to intervene early - during the perinatal period - on mental health and family relationships to interrupt intergenerational cycles of CM in at-risk families.

De Désert à Poisson d’or : reconstitution du processus de récriture chez J.M.G. Le Clézio

This contribution explores the process of intentional rewriting at work in Poisson d'or by J.M.G. Le Clézio, based on the narrative architecture of Désert, published seventeen years earlier. Through a structural analysis comparing the trajectories of the heroines Lalla and Laïla, we demonstrate how Le Clézio reused and modified the narrative elements of one of his own novels to adapt the same plot to the constraints of a more uprooted, more contemporary character who is nonetheless equally in search of identity. Three narrative elements common to both works are examined: the search for identity markers, the conflict between social assignment and freedom, and the Western experience as a path to exile or revelation. Using a methodological combination of Propp's approach and Bremond's theory of narrative possibilities, the study highlights that this phenomenon of rewriting, far from being a simple self-plagiarism of plot, constitutes a genuine aesthetic and poetic gesture, revealing the consistency of Le Clézio's themes and their ability to regenerate themselves according to figures and contexts.

The media concentration in the hands of a handful of national oligarchs as well as the commodification of knowledge induced by competition established between universities have led since the beginning of the 21st century, in Quebec as elsewhere in the West, to the decline of freedom of the press and academic freedom, which nevertheless guarantee informed public opinion and collective decision-making based on knowledge subjected to the test of facts. In response to the triumphant neoliberal ideology, the activism of journalists and academics leads to a dead end, since it also contributes to distorting their functions. While it is certainly necessary to return to methodical investigation and the honest search for the truth, the task is difficult in the advertising regime put in place.

Social economy enterprises are usually seen as organizations characterized by horizontal management, aiming for social objectives rather than profit maximization. Based on semi-structured interviews (n = 25) conducted with three social economy organizations in Montreal, our article examines the advantages and disadvantages of opting for an open-plan space. This choice compensates for the reduced workspace through a hybrid work organization and shared premises among different organizations. We observed the adjustments in balancing the passage to the open-plan office with working from home. Findings suggest that this setup allows for cost savings and suits employees, provided there is some flexibility in their working hours, while offering more opportunities for networking and exchanges. The people working for social economy organizations appear to appreciate this context more than those in the public and private sectors. They are more willing to go to work in these open spaces.

Although research shows that information sources play an important role in career choice, few studies investigate the career information seeking behaviour of young adults with a multivariate approach of factors associated with the choice of information sources. This study is aimed at identifying the factors associated with young adults’ career information seeking behaviour in a sample of 1,400 young adults in the province of Quebec, and the information sources they used when collecting information on jobs, career possibilities, further education or training. Results show that more than half of respondents consulted two sources or more and that the most used information sources are personal relationships and educational institutions. The discussion highlights that young adults actively seek information regardless of their school attendance status. It underscores the importance of close relationships—such as family and friends—as key sources of information, and calls for tailored strategies to disseminate information that reflect the diverse needs and characteristics of different groups of young adults.

This essay and its accompanying images and videos include documentation of, and reflections upon, the musicalligraphics project: a live collaborative performance of improvised music, improvised calligraphy, and improvised spoken word. Analyzing the footage of these various performances, the authors examine the ways in which our improvisatory choices influenced one another across artforms and sensory modalities. In keeping with the collaborative nature of the project, we have adopted a flexible authorial voice in this paper that oscillates between our individual perspectives and shared insights. Through this discussion, we consider the challenges and opportunities of cross-discipline collaboration, founded upon our experiences collaborating extemporaneously through spoken word, music, and calligraphy.

This quantitative action research investigates the effectiveness of a flashcard-based intervention in enhancing French vocabulary acquisition among Sri Lankan undergraduate learners. A sample of 60 beginner and intermediate French students was selected through convenience sampling. The study employed pre-test and post-test design, including a control group, with data analyzed using paired-samples t-tests and ANOVA. Over four weeks, participants engaged in a structured flashcard program incorporating French words, English translations, and visual aids. The results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in vocabulary knowledge, affirming the efficacy of flashcards as a language-learning tool. The action research approach allowed for iterative refinement of the intervention, ensuring its relevance and applicability in real-world educational settings. Additionally, a positive correlation was identified between students' attitudes towards flashcard use and vocabulary gains. These findings contribute to the ongoing development of practical strategies for vocabulary instruction, with implications for language educators seeking to enhance student outcomes through evidence-based practices.

The Quebec Federation of Community Organizations has identified significant challenges related to the recruitment and retention of qualified workers in Family resource centres (FRCs). Inspired by community-based participatory research, this study seeks to better understand the work contexts in which employees in these centres evolve. Three main issues affecting work in FRCs were identified (i.e. underfunding, recruitment and retention difficulties, and lack of knowledge and recognition of FRC work), along with six work conditions that promote retention. The results provide insight into the structural conditions in which FRCs operate which contribute to workforce casualization.
