In this essay I look at the significance of Inigo Jones's annotated copy of Andrea Palladio's I quattro libri dell'architettura in a time of momentous change in the habits of readers and writers, printers and publishers, architects and kings. The Solar Tower Atmospheric Cerenkov Effect Experiment (STACEE) is a ground-based atmospheric Cerenkov telescope constructed to conduct gamma-ray astronomy. The STACEE telescope employs the mirrors of the National Solar Thermal Test Facility (NSTTF) to observe gamma-rays at a lower energy threshold than the current generation of imaging atmospheric Cerenkov telescopes. A prototype of the telescope was constructed in 1998 which used 32 heliostat mirrors of the NSTTF with a total collection area of ~1200 m 2. Background: Quality of life (QoL) is defined as the overall state of well-being regarding an individual’s physical, mental, and emotional health. People living with hearing loss will generally report a lower quality of life compared to their normal-hearing peers due to the communication and listening challenges they face everyday, which may lead to lower occupational functioning and feelings of social isolation. One rehabilitative option is the placement of a bone-anchored hearing implant (BAHI). The effects of ammonia in pathophysiological concentrations were studied on the electrophysiology of putative glutamatergic synapses in the rat hippocampal formation; experiments were done in vitro and in vivo. Exposure of hippocampal slices to 5 mM ammonium chloride reduced the orthodromic population spike evoked in CA1 and CA3 pyramidal cell layer and in granule cell layer, following stimulation of their respective main afferent system. However, antidromic responses evoked in these groups of neurons were not affected by ammonia. Feelings of incompetence are an ongoing part of the private experience of being a therapist. Although normative, they are often linked to therapist stress, distress, and to negative therapeutic processes and outcomes. Yet systematic inquiries into the subjective judgment of oneself as inadequate and incompetent in the role of therapist are virtually nonexistent and even more rare for experienced therapists. A qualitative approach was used in this study to obtain rich descriptions of therapists' encounters with feelings of incompetence. To acquire its characteristic structural and functional complexity, the mammalian nervous system must undergo several critical developmental processes. One such process requires factors that regulate the decision of dividing progenitors to leave the cell cycle and activate the neuronal differentiation program. It is shown in this thesis that the murine runt-related gene Runx1 is expressed in proliferating cells on the basal side of the murine olfactory epithelium. Disruption of Runx1 function in vivo does not result in a change in the quantity of progenitors but leads to a decrease in precursor number and an increase in differentiated ORNs. This thesis evaluates the development of psychosocial based intervention with victims of sexual assault within a designated center situated in the Lanaudière region. This center offers forensic and psychosocial services within five days following a sexual aggression. However, a critical review of the literature reveals that training geared to this specific issue is not available in French. Winter storms produce major problems for society and their varying types of precipitation are often the key factor responsible. The objective of this study is to better understand the formation of winter precipitation types (freezing rain, ice pellets, snow, slush, wet snow and refrozen wet snow) within the varying, and interacting, environmental conditions experienced within many winter storms. The synthesis of the tertbutyldimethylsilyl derivatives of adenosine is described. The 2',5'-protected nucleosides were rapidly and easily prepared in relatively good yields. The silylated nucleosides are easily incorporated into ribonucleotides using the fast and efficient dichlorophosphite method. The ribonucleotide GpCpApApCpCpA corresponding to the 3'-terminus of (DIAGRAM, TABLE OR GRAPHIC OMITTED...PLEASE SEE DAI) was successfully synthesized in a stepwise fashion. The stepwise and block condensation pathways were compared in the synthesis of CpCpCpCpC. The syntheses of A2'p5'A2'p5'A and other 2',5'- and symmetrically-linked ribonucleotides were readily accomplished. Neuropathologiquement, cependant, la MA est définie par la présence de plaques amyloïdes-bêta et d'enchevêtrements neurofibrillaires tau, qui distinguent la MA des autres maladies neurodégénératives. Some 7,500 seeds of Lotus corniculatus cv. Mirabel were treated with X-rays (3,000-12,000 Rads), ethyl methanesulfonate, 8-ethoxycaffeine, n-hydroxyurea, and 2-aminopurine (0.001 to 1.0% solutions). A total of 93 selfed, partially inbred, and open-pollinated lines, comprising some 22,000 plants, were generated over four generations. Mutagenic effects were assessed on germination, seedling survival, meiotic aberrations, pollen abortion, seed and forage yields, pod dehiscence, winter hardiness, brown floral keel tip color, and cyanoglycoside (HCA) content in the leaves. We present SSS3D, a fast multi-objective neural architecture search framework designed to find computationally efficient 3D point cloud semantic segmentation networks. It uses RandLA-Net [1], an off-the-shelf near state of the art point-based network, as a super network to enable weight transfer and speed up the searches. SSS3D has a complex search space composed of sampling and architectural parameters that can form 2.88 × 10^17 possible networks. SAP-1 and SAP-2 are two optimal networks found by SSS3D. Due to recently expanded definitions of human and child trafficking among transnational actors, thousands of Qur’anic students throughout Senegal, West Africa, called "taalibes", who beg to support their schools, have been identified as victims of trafficking. Senegal’s generous supply-driven alms-giving draws schools of boys from throughout the region to beg. To gain financial and institutional support to promote the "taalibes’" human rights, activists disseminate compassion-generating communications to transnational audiences about their exploitation at the hands of their masters. Phosphorylation of protein kinase Cs (PKCs) by phosphoinositide-dependent kinase I (PDK) is critical for PKC activity. In the nervous system of the marine mollusk Aplysia, there are only two major PKC isoforms, the calcium-activated PKC Apl I and the calcium-independent PKC Apl II, and both PKCs are persistently activated during intermediate memory. We monitored the PDK-dependent phosphorylation of PKC Apl I and PKC Apl II using phosphopeptide antibodies. PDK phosphorylation of PKCs was not sensitive to inhibitors of PI-3 kinase, PKC, nor to expression of a kinase-inactive PDK. The central focus of this research is the difficulty of writing women’s bodies. In this thesis, I propose that body posture is an important, underappreciated, variable to consider in neuroimaging research. Thousands of brain imaging experiments are published each year, but few consider how the postures that participants assume may influence the data collected. Whereas participants in most behavioural, cognitive, and psychology experiments sit upright, one of the most prominent functional neuroimaging techniques, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), requires participants to lie supine. PTP-sigma, a developmentally regulated receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase of the LAR family, is highly expressed in the nervous system and is involved in axon guidance. In this study, two potential substrates of PTP-sigma have been detected by substrate trapping and two-dimensional electrophoresis. In addition, an expression pattern of PTP-sigma in adult non-neural mouse tissues has been established and opens new research avenues for the function of PTP-sigma. This study examines how lesbian domestic violence is constructed by various social actors from within a social representations framework. In particular, the study compares and contrasts the ways in which social representations on lesbian domestic violence are constituted by practitioners working within the spheres of both domestic violence and lesbian mental health in Quebec.
