The pain experienced by the patient in the hospital bed differs in many respects from that inflicted upon the subject of a laboratory experiment. The fact that both are called "pain" indicates more the broadness of this designation than the number of similarities between the two phenomena. A knowledge of the basic atmospheric parameters and their variability is required both for climatological purposes and theoretical studies. Meteorologists generally use constant pressure maps at a number of levels to study the broad scale structure of the atmosphere. Vertical cross sections are then used to provide a finer structure and also to permit a vertical integration of the various constant pressure levels. Research meteorologists at McGill have analysed hemispheric weather maps and meridional cross sections along 80oW on a daily basis for a three year period to determine major parameters in the general circulation. Several investigations suggest that the amygdala plays a significant role in behavioral inhibition. Brutkowski, Fonberg and Mempel (1960) reported that bilateral lesions of the amygdaloid complex in dogs severely impaired inhibitory conditioned responses, while excitatory conditioned responses remained unaffected. Bilateral lesions of the amygdala have also been shown to impair the acquisition of the conditioned emotional response (Kellicutt & Schwartzbaum, 1963), and the retention of an auditory frequency discrimination in a bar pressing situation for food (Schwartzbaum, Thompson & Kellicutt, 1964). In recent years plaice has risen rapidy in commercial importance in eastern Canada. In 1940 only 3 million lb were landed compared to a total of more than 74 million lb in 1960. This study was designed to investigate the effect of background on the disappearance of luminous figures. The basic observation is the Ditchburn-Riggs effect obtained with stabilized images. Stabilized images of simple visual objects, like straight lines, disappear and reappear rapidly from time to time. Pritchard, Heron, and Hebb (1960) observed that stabilized images of complex figures disappear and reappear in a meaningful fashion. McKinney (1963) demonstrated a similar phenomenon with luminous figures in the darkroom. He observed that luminous figures also tend to disappear and reappear like stabilized images. The term "bark" is applied in common parlance to denote the material that surrounds the woody substance (xylem) in a mature tree. It is thus situated outside the cambium which is the living tissue of a growing tree. The significance with wbich ACh is attributed in the role of a neurotransmitter is reviewed.The sparcity of the chemical evidence used to characterize ACh is described and this evidence is criticised. The affects of cue position and rewarded pretraining on successive black-white discrimination learning were studied using 48 naive hooded rats. Two degrees of cue-reward separation and 60 vs.0 pretraining trials with the positive cue were employed in a go-no go paradigm in a runway. The object of this study is a descriptive comparison of the informai organization of two aggregates of prison inmates.The essential difference between the two is that one group is awaiting trial while the other consists of regular, convicted offenders. Because of this, the wards containing each group differ considerably in formal organization. The possibility of using a wire-wound cryotron as an amplifier is examined and it is shown that current and voltage gains greater than unity are possible. Advantages of a superconducting ground plane are investigated and it is subsequently used in all experimental work.The frequency response of the deviee is determined by the time constants of the control circuit and load impedance,resulting in an upper frequency limit of approximately 10 Ke/s.
