This research deals with acoustoelectric interactions in CdS. The first part is devoted to an experimental study of acoustoelectric effects occurring under high field conditions. The present investigation was an exploratory one. Its main purpose was to determine whether or not acetone was a useful phase in the solvent extraction and the separation of some inorganic compounds. Lee (1) bas pointed out that acetone and a concentrated aqueous solution of calcium chloride constitute an unexplored but very interesting system for solvant extraction. This was the-system chosen for study. The investigation consisted in finding the affect of the concentration of calcium chloride and hydrochloric acid on the distribution ratios of metal chlorides and oxyacids. The independant formation cross-sections of 30 min cs130, 6.5dCs132, 2.9 hrCs134m, 2.1 yrCs134g, 13 dCs136, 32 minCs 138, 18 d Rb86, and cumulative formation cross-sections of 30 yr Cs137 and 17 min Xe138 produced in the fission Qf Th232 qy 2G by 85 Mev. protons have been measured radiochemically. Charge distribution curves were constructed at 20, 30, 39, 50, 57, 65, 75 and 85 Mev. With increasing proton energy these curves broaden and the most probable charge shifts towards the Une of beta stability. These effects are interpreted in terms of fission-spallation competition. The performance of a concrete floor joist section under a simulated vehicle wheel load is investigated in order to determine the feasibility of this configuration as a bridge deck. Special attention is paid to the thin 2-1/2 inch slab, and analyses are attempted using the elastic plate theory and the ultimate yield line theory. This thesis describes a theoretical and experimental investigation of a two-dimensional, turbulent jet flowing, at incompressible speeds, onto a screen placed at right angles to the flow. Five wire screens with square mesh and open area ratios ranging form 0.34 to 0.66 were tested over a range of Reynolds numbers. Attention was focussed on the loss of momentum of the flow through the screen and the subsequent development of the flow downstream.
