Le lavage de sols est un processus de traitement qui a été employé intensivement pour l'extraction des produits toxiques, néanmoins le processus ne détoxique pas les polluants mobilisés. Les procédés plus communs de désintoxication incluent les réactions rédox qui sont négociées par les métaux nullivalents (MNVs). La réduction de Cr(VI) au Cr(III) est souhaitable, car la dernière espèce est moins toxique pour la plupart des êtres vivants, et a également une basse mobilité et disponibilité biologique. A previously proposed kinetics equation describing the delignification of wood in soda-anthraquinone (AQ) liquors was shown to be valid under isothermal conditions, and was extended to describe variation in initial alkali charge. Kinetics expressions were derived for soda-amine, kraft (soda-hydrosulfide ion) and soda-ethanol delignification under isothermal conditions over various ranges of additive charge. In each case, the total delignification observed after a given time of pulping could be described as the sum or two contributions: (i) that due to the sodium hydroxide alone, and (ii) that due to the additive (AQ, amine, hydrosulfide ion or ethanol). Most critical acclaim of William Faulkner has focused on his innovations of narrative technique, and while critics have frequently noted the correlation between form and meaning in his novels, the central focus of these novels--race--has largely been ignored in the criticism. The purpose of this paper is to examine Faulkner's narrative methodology and arrangement of material in order to demonstrate that the structures of his novels, particularly Light in August and Absalom, Absalom!, consistently enhance and dramatize the major subject and themes of the novels. Ce mémoire ce veut être une étude de cas régional sur la métamorphose des institutions étatiques à une époque où la Chine traverse une importante période de division politique. Il s'agit de la période qui suit la chute de l'empire Tang (618-907), laquelle est connue sous le nom de Cinq dynasties et Dix royaumes (907-979). La Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale pour DSM-5 (CAPS-5) est une entrevue diagnostique structurée évaluant la présence de trouble de stress post-traumatique (TSPT) actuel ou au cours de la vie et qui produit un diagnostic congruent avec les critères de la cinquième édition du Manuel Diagnostique et Statistiques des Troubles Mentaux de l’American Psychiatric Association. Cependant, la version française de l’entrevue n’a pas encore été traduite et validée. Dans ce but précis, des individus exposés à des événements traumatiques ont été recruté et évalués à travers différents sites hospitaliers et cliniques en France et au Canada (N = 161). This thesis attempts to address different problems pertaining to the concept of subject. These problems might appear remote from one another, but their juxtaposition reveals possible interactions that yield rich avenues of research. The ensuing dialogue provides an interesting portrait of the contemporary subject. Enunciation theories are the point of departure of this thesis. They contend that the subject constructs itself in and by discourse. La colite aiguë grave est un phénotype spécifique de poussée de rectocolite hémorragiquecaractérisé par une inflammation systémique associée à une diarrhée sanglante, associé à unrisque de colectomie de 20 % et une mortalité de 1 %. On en sait peu sur la physiopathologiede la colite aiguë grave. Les micro-organismes ont été proposés comme déclencheurs de lacolite aiguë grave en raison de la similitude entre ce phénotype et les colites infectieuses, enparticulier la présence de l'inflammation systémique. This thesis presents an experimental investigation into the effects of gastric denervation on gastric secretion. It is presented in two sections and Section l is sub-divided into two parts. The first part of Section I deals with the effect of unilateral vagotomy in the rat. Unilateral vagotomy reduced the spontaneous secretion of gastric juice in the pylorus-ligated rat. The mean acid output after unilateral vagotomy was significantly smaller than the acid output in control rats, and significantly greater than the mean acid output after bilateral vagotomy. Les Escherichia coli entéropathogéniques (EPEC) et les Escherichia coli entérohémorrhagiques (EHEC) utilisent un système de sécrétion de type III afin d'injecter des protéines effectrices directement dans le cytoplasme des cellules hôtes infectées. NleA (non-LEE encoded effector A) est une protéine effectrice essentielle à la virulence qui, une fois injectée dans la cellule hôte, est localisée à l'appareil de Golgi. NleA s'associe fortement aux membranes des cellules infectées de façon similaire aux protéines intégrales de membrane; la bioinformatique prédit qu'il existe deux domaines transmembranaires putatifs chez NleA. Five studies were conducted to determine the effect of inoculating (Pioneer Sila-Bac 11H50RTM) on the silage quality and the feeding value of high DM (55.3 %) alfalfa silage. The inoculant contained multi strains of Lactobacillus plantarum developed by Pioneer Hi-Bred Inc. In the first study, the effects of inoculation on ensiling characteristics of alfalfa were determined in a completely randomized design using 30 mini-silos. In the 2nd study, 9 containers were used in a completely randomized design to determine the effect of inoculation on the aerobic stability of alfalfa silage. The current North American Standards, AISI S240 (2015) & AISI S400 (2015), provide design information for steel sheathed shear walls having a maximum sheathing thickness of 0.84mm (0.33'') and a 1.37mm (0.54'') thick frame. The specimens tested as part of past research programs composed of these members developed a shear resistance close to 30 kN/m (2058lb/ft) (#10 screws @ 50 mm (2'') o.c.). There is a demand to be able to design all-steel shear walls that are capable of developing lateral resistance beyond 100 kN/m to bridge the gap between cold-formed steel and hot-rolled steel lateral framing shear wall systems. …  Lire la suite

The aim of the present investigation was to study the structural variability of osteoarthritic human femoral condylar cartilage proteoglycans that can aggregate with hyaluronic acid as compared with site and age matched normal adult cartilage proteoglycans. Using specific antibodies to different parts of the proteoglycan molecule in radioimmunoassays, we were able to detect four proteoglycan populations of different hydrodynamic sizes in normal, as well as in osteoarthritic articular cartilage. These populations were: a large chondroitin 6-sulfate, a smaller chondroitin 4-sulfate, and an even smaller keratan sulfate population together with the hyaluronic acid-binding region. The first part of the thesis describes the concepts of viscoplasticity as a continuous plasticity theory highlighting different kinds of yield functions, plastic potentials and visocplastic constitutive laws. A 2-dimensional elasto-viscoplastic finite element model for stress/stability analysis of mining excavations has been developed for use on microcomputers. An iterative explicit time stepping scheme is implemented. The program uses automatic time-step calculator based on equations giving a limit on the time step in an attempt to prevent numerical instability when common forms of isotropic yield functions and plastic potentials are used in the viscoplastic solution. In the last decades when trade became increasingly international, the tendency of governments to use trade embargoes as a political tool grew considerably. The emergence of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) coincides with the growth of watershed associations in Québec. As a collective entity of stakeholders, these watershed associations use collaborative efforts to achieve IWRM. First Nations are often cited as priority stakeholders. Despite this 'priority' recognition, First Nations are rarely present in this new paradigm shift in water management. This is the case in Québec's Outaouais and Chateauguay watersheds. However, identifying First Nation capacity strengths and limitations provides a greater understanding as to their absence from IWRM participation. Inhibitors of protein biosynthesis which catalyze the breakdown of polyribosomes to inactive monomers (e.g. puromycin) inhibit the transport of newly formed ribosomal submits to the cytoplasm, while inhibitors which preserve the polyribosomes, and therefore do not change the size of the monomer pool (e.g. cycloheximide), do not affect this transport. The formation and processing of the 45s ribosomal precursor RNA in the nucleus is not differentially affected by either class of inhibitors. The administration of hydrocortisone to rats at 19 hours after partial hepatectomy results in an increased transport of the ribosomal subunits at 26 and 36 hours post-operative. The relationship between the size of the ribosomal monomer pool and the rate of incorporation of label from orotic acid-6-14C into ribosomal components of the post-mitochondrial supernatant from normal and regenerating liver, has been investigated. The concentration of inactive monomers varies in a predictable manner during the regeneration of rat liver. The pool of ribosomal monomers decreases to 40% that of normal rat liver within 19 hours of partial hepatectomy; by 42 hours, it has returned to within 70% of the resting level. A method to generate rain attenuation statistics has been confirmed experimentally: actual attenuation statistics were obtained from a 5-mile microwave link operating at 11.2 GHz and compared with the results of computations from raingauge records observed alongside the link. The storm velocity required in this method was estimated from radar and from 700-mb-level wind speed. These were compared. The resulting statistics suggest that the storm velocity can be estimated from radiosonde observations where the radar facilities are not available. Using the method, 10-year attenuation statistics were computed in the regions of Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg and Edmonton. The …  Lire la suite

Some enzymes can show differences in behaviour depending on whether they are in the membrane-bound or solubilized state (allotopy). Acetylcholinesterase, a membrane-bound enzyme, was solubilized from eel electroplaque membranes and the kinetic properties of the two forms were studied. It was found that the Kms for ACh and the extent of the inhibition by excess substrate of membrane-bound and solubilized acetylcholinesterase both differed significantly. Divalent cations (Mg++, Ca++) increased the Vmax of the solubilized enzyme but decreased that of the membrane-bound enzyme. Eserine was a competitive inhibitor of the solubilized enzyme but a non-competitive inhibitor of membrane-bound acetylcholinesterase. The effects …  Lire la suite

Each of two detectors used in our Positron Emission Mammography (PEM) system consists of four 36mm x 36mm x 20mm bismuth germanate (BGO) detector blocks coupled to a crossed-wire anode photomultiplier tube (PMT). To achieve a high spatial resolution, the crystal blocks have been finely pixelated using a diamond saw. In each detector, 36 x 36 1.9mm x 1.9mm crystal elements are coupled directly to the PMT window and, on the opposite face of the blocks, 35 x 35 elements are offset by 0.9mm along both the x- and y-axes of the PMT. Electron arc therapy is the treatment of choice for tumours involving large curved surfaces. At the Montreal General Hospital a unique approach to the electron arc therapy was developed in 1986 and has been used clinically ever since. The approach is based on the concept of the characteristic angle beta.
