Feedback from smart technology using body worn sensors has seen tremendous growth in various sports. Specifically in ice hockey, the demand for tracking body movements during games and practices with sensor data is growing. However, there has yet to be a feasible method to use this data to automatically classify shooting methods. Although audition may appear to be the dominant sensory modality in speech production, the capacity for intelligible speech following severe hearing loss suggests that other sensory information - for example, somatosensory feedback - may also contribute to the achievement of speech targets. Ovine (strains 9L and 3384Y) and bovine (strains 649, 2336 and 8025) isolates of Histophilus somni were investigated for their ability to acquire iron from haemoglobin (Hb). Bovine isolates were capable of utilizing bovine, but not ovine, porcine or human Hb as a source of iron. Ovine isolates could not obtain iron from Hb. Bovine isolates bound bovine, ovine, and human Hbs by means of the same iron-repressible receptor(s) and produced a ~120-kDa iron-repressible, outer membrane protein. Inter-row mechanical cultivation was proposed as a supplement to or substitute for conventional weed control methods currently used in snap bean, carrot and lettuce production. Several types of cultivators were assessed and compared. The effect of mechanical cultivation on crop yield and quality was studied by counting, weighing and grading bean pods, carrot roots and lettuce heads. The effect of mechanical cultivation on disease incidence was studied by surveying fields during the season and by determining the number and weight of diseased pods, roots and heads at harvest. Residual dipolar couplings have been introduced recently as a new type of experimental constraints in biomolecular structure determination by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). These interactions are obtained by imparting weak orientational ordering to a biomolecule in a dilute liquid crystal. This results in a partial cancellation of anisotropic interactions such as the chemical shift anisotropy (CSA), the quadrupolar coupling and the dipolar coupling. Because the alignment is weak, only strong interactions manifest. These measurements can be used to refine structure or to define folds in structural genomics projects. A field lysimeter experiment was conducted during 1993 and 1994 using 4 water table depths (WTD) (0.3, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 m), 13 treatment levels of calcium (0, 1500, and 2500 kg/ha) and potassium (0, 160, and 400 kg/ha), to determine their effects on tomato quality and yield. Plant parameters measured included: yield (fruit/plant), fruit height, maximum and minimum equatorial width, degree of catfacing (scale of 1 to 5), and sunscald (scale of 0 to 2). This study examined the relationship between the physical fitness of National Hockey League (NHL) entry draft players and performance in the NHL. Physiological profiles were compared by level (NHL vs non-NHL) and position (forwards vs defense). The fitness level was determined by an assessment of body composition, anaerobic fitness, strength, power, muscular endurance, flexibility, and aerobic fitness. Subjects were 422 male hockey players, consisting of NHL entry draft (n = 310), minor league professional (n = 59) and NHL professional (n = 53) players. The "end of the century" nourishes a questioning movement on national identity and on the concept of modernity that is encouraged by the Quebec essayists. We propose an organization of the elements of the sovereign narrative which would be able to conduct and constitute a generative grammar of its argumentation. Our project consists in creating a matrix of the nationalistic discourse during the 1995 Quebec referendum period on sovereignty. Soybeans (Glycine max) contain many health-beneficial compounds, including tocopherols, and thus have great potential in the nutraceutical industry. Tocopherols can be found in four forms: alpha-, beta-, delta-, and gamma-, alpha- being the most biologically active form of vitamin E, thus the most interesting for human health. Those secondary metabolites act as stress mediators in plants and also are involved in the photosynthesis process. Many abiotic factors, including temperature, can influence their concentrations in soybeans. This thesis examines the development of an anorexic discourse in Goethe's Die Wahlverwandtschaften. Chapter 1 investigates anorexia as a cultural signifier and its relationship to non-clinical and non-medical disciplines. I then submit that female self-starvation serves a structural and a thematic function in WV. In Chapter 2, I argue that Ottilie's arrested female development illustrates the central, concept (elective affinities) of the novel. Chapter 3 examines food as a non-verbal system of communication in the narrative. The Manaqib al-`Arifin is a series of hagiographic biographies of the first Mevlevi masters. It was written in Persian by the dervish Eflaki in the first half of the fourteenth century in Konya. Because of the limited number of narrative sources from that period, Eflaki appears as an outstanding witness of the late Seldjuk, Ilkhanid, and early Beylik period in Anatolia. This thesis intends to evaluate the Manaqib al-`Arifin as a source for political history. Ces épisodes sont susceptibles de transporter d'importantes quantités d'ozone dans la couche limite planétaire (PBL), un enjeu pour la qualité de l'air. Les événements d'échange sont identifiés en traçant les trajectoires cinématiques tridimensionnelles. The interaction between non-spherical nuclear charge distribution and the electric field gradient is described. Expressions for the energy levels (I = 1), the nuclear quadrupolar resonance, NQR, transition frequencies and line shape are derived. The general equations to obtain the inverse line width parameter, T$ sb2 sp star,$ from the self-quenched super-regenerative oscillator, SRO, NQR spectra are derived and tested. The IceCube South Pole Neutrino Observatory consists of an array of ∼5600 photodetectors distributed within a cubic kilometre of ice ranging between 1.5 to 2.5 km in depth. This configuration allows the detection of the Cherenkov light produced by the passage of high-energy charged particles resulting from neutrino interactions. In 2013, the IceCube collaboration announced the discovery of a high-energy astrophysical neutrino flux for the first time, opening a new window for the exploration of the high-energy universe. The importance of self-regulated learning (SRL) during studying has been heavily researched. Yet, self-report and lab-based designs limit our understanding of how students regulate their learning during authentic study tasks. Recently, calls have been made to further examine how students self-regulate during studying through the use of trace data on real learning content. Cerebral vasospasm is a common cause of ischemia and death in patients suffering from cerebral hemorrhage, most notably subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and it usually occurs 4-14 days after the initial episode of bleeding. Many mediators of cerebral vasospasm (CVS) have been proposed, but at this time the pathogenesis of CVS is poorly understood, and oxyhemoglobin is thought to be the principal pathogenic agent. Embedded random access memories (RAMs) are increasingly being tested using built-in self-test (BIST) circuits, because an embedded RAM's signals are not accessible through input/output pins. Given current trends, the size of embedded RAMs will eventually grow so large that yield considerations will require the use of redundant lines for repair. Then, BIST circuits will need to not only detect faults, but also locate faults for repair. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and infant macrosomia are important obstetric health concerns for Aboriginal populations in Canada. Previous research in non-Aboriginal populations has established that GDM and macrosomia are associated with increased risk of fetal morbidity. Specifically, GDM is a risk factor for infant macrosomia, hypoglycemia, polycythemia, hypocalcemia, and hyperbilirubinemia. Furthermore, macrosomia is an independent risk factor for shoulder dystocia, clavicular fracture, brachial plexus injury, birth asphyxia and operative delivery. Background: It is currently unknown whether differences in clinical and patient-reported outcomes that have been reported among people with asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) overlap (ACO) compared to COPD are associated with contemporaneous differences in exercise tolerance and its physiological and perceptual determinants. This study tested the hypothesis that, compared to people with COPD, people with ACO will have more severe exercise intolerance in association with greater pathophysiological abnormalities in exertional breathlessness, exercise ventilatory inefficiency, and dynamic breathing mechanics. The current study was designed to examine characteristics associated with interaction in group versus dyads in middle childhood. Two classes of children in grades one through five participated in the study. Children were identified by their peers as participating in groups or dyads. Teachers then rated the characteristics of these children. Analyses of children interacting in groups versus dyads showed that both boys and girls in groups were perceived to be more competitive, to value their friends more, to receive more attention from peers and to be more emotionally expressive than children interacting in dyads. Anthropometry, dietary intakes and food preferences of Mohawk children in Kahnawake were studied. Overweight, defined by body mass index at and above the 85th percentile of United States all-race children was 29.6% in boys and 32.8% in girls aged 5 to 12 years; rates were generally lower than those reported for Native North American schoolchildren using same criterion. Compared with U.S. data, there were greater differences in subscapular than triceps skinfold thicknesses, suggesting a more central distribution of subcutaneous fat. During the past three years the author has been engaged in studies of petrological and structural problems in an area including the Verna uranium deposit, located in northwestern Saskatchewan, three miles northeast of the Eldorado townsite (fig. 2). Field studies in the Verna area were supplemented by laboratory work at McGill University.
