This article is rooted in an ethnographic enquiry carried out in Moroccan urban settings in the early 2000s with ethnopratitioners. The present reflection attempts to highlight the possible lines of ontological rupture and continuity between humans and non-humans within this Islamic cosmology, which is active in the Moroccan ethnomedical space. The hypothesis is that the illness, be it physical or spiritual, may be defined as an event of cosmological rupture that the ethnopractitioner tries to repair by the mean of an ontological binding which they draw from the baraka, an intangible, ancestral and transgenerational well of blessing, which is distributed in unequal proportions between human and other-than-human individuals and objects. The intervention of animals and spirits – goat, cat or jinn – updates prophetic and agiographical accounts while sketching out a complex network of intercessions capable of activating the baraka. A careful analysis of human-jinn otherness will make it possible to sketch a conception of other-than-human subjectivity which subverts the canons of capsular identity of which the body would be the seat.

This study aimed to describe how students enrolled in a MOOC can be motivated by gamification, mobile learning modes (nomadic learning), and other MOOC features. We conducted two surveys in a total sample of 4,669 African students. Based on their responses, we paint a broad portrait of the main benefits and challenges as perceived by the students. We then look at how the MOOC impacts student motivation. We wanted to shed light on how current gamification strategies as well as mobile learning modes can encourage students to continue taking a MOOC. The results show that certain features of the MOOC CERTICE program boost student motivation. Mobile capabilities also appear to be highly popular with students.

In North Cameroon, the French colonial administration adapted its policy of maintaining colonial order to pre-colonial, geographical and anthropological realities. This adaptation resulted in the creation of the goumiers corps, responsible for territorial surveillance and colonial intelligence, exclusively in this region of the country. Initially recruited by the guards in the service of the region's great Muslim chiefs, the goumiers were at the heart of the relations of power and collaboration between the colonial administration and the traditional authorities. The evolution of their mission and the professionalization of their policing practices also reflect the tensions that ran through the relationship between the administration and the traditional powers. As intermediaries between the colonial power and the local police, the goumiers were also tax collectors and were at the heart of inter-imperial diplomacy between France and England, particularly in the surveillance of colonial borders and Sahelian borders.

This work analyzes, through a collaborative methodological approach and the concept of epistemic violence proposed by Dotson (2011), the perspectives of obstetric nurses on women of immigrant origin and the care provided to them in a Montreal university hospital. It reports, firstly, the nurses' testimonies, analyzed from the perspective of the processes of discrediting women who are the object of culturalizing stereotypes and their effects on the defective communications between them and members of the care team. Second, it sheds light on the power differences between nurses and doctors and the professional dilemmas they face. Some forms of epistemic violence would result from the intersection between the stereotypes that are attributed to certain women and the position occupied by nurses when they fail in their advocacy role, partly because of their own prejudices and partly because of interprofessional power relations.
