AbstractThe centre of attention of this article is the emergence of cultural and political mediation as part of municipal cultural policies. The focus is on actors involved in the processes of agenda-setting, development, implementation, and evaluation of Quebec municipalities' cultural policies, all from different perspectives, theoretical approaches and practices. Several concrete examples of cultural mediation were observed, and these provided the starting point for this analysis of different uses and applications of cultural mediation, despite all being grouped together under the same label of cultural mediation.

AbstractThe study of Quebec's international relations has not produced, as of yet, a genuine research program, with a coherent set of data and tools of analysis. Different approaches to the phenomenon are presented, according to the different aspects of the object under study and according to the analytical frameworks which have been developed to better understand the nature and extent of Quebec's international behavior. A recent concern for empirical methods in assessing Quebec's international activities allows one to contemplate the possibility of a more systematic analysis in this field.

SUMMARYIf sociology is a matter of method(s), it is also a question of theory. A "methodological" conception of sociology may be associated with the difficulties of an operational link between theory and method. The analysis of V. Lemieux' study Parenté et politique. L'organisation sociale dans l'île d'Orléans makes possible the assessment of quantitative and qualitative measurements of kinship relations and support for political parties on the island. The operational difficulties experienced make it possible to reconstruct the object of the research of which these measurements provide the explanation; that is, the transformation of social relations at the foundation of this society, the analysis of which constitutes a special example of the formalization or the mathematization of social dialectics.
