Pedagogical materials for teaching music in Quebec's elementary schools have been influenced by the changes in school realities that have been accentuated by international migration. These changes have led educators to develop intercultural educational practices that promote cultural openness and equal opportunities for students from all backgrounds. This approach has been extended to the teaching of music, using traditional music as a means of integration to introduce students to a variety of cultures and help them construct their identity. However, it seems that teaching resources for this repertoire are scarce, and not well known by teachers. The purpose of this article is to describe the teaching materials, available in French in the province of Quebec, for teaching traditional musics and world musics. The content analysis of 850 resources (textbooks, books, scores, CD and video recordings, websites, and other electronic resources) was based on intercultural music education accepted criteria: presence of traditional musics and region of origin ; principles of social justice, reduction of ethnocentric clichés ; contextualization ; authenticity, arrangements or hybridization ; modes of transmission (score, learning by ear or imitation) ; choice of instruments for interpretation and appreciation ; and elements to guide the teacher. This analysis demonstrated that 28.7 per cent of the starting corpus presents traditional music or tunes inspired by it, but only 1/10 of the corpus meets all the criteria for intercultural music education. More worrisome is the fact that local music (First Nations, Quebec, Canada) is under-represented and, as a result, teachers are poorly equipped to transmit this musical heritage.

This article brings a notion of technological appropriation to bear upon work with/through sound. It aims to promote an engagement with the sound field of anthropology through describing sound appropriation by digital bricolage. Inspired in part by personal exploration of the Raspberry Pi computer's musical affordances, this text locates the methods and approaches through which sound itself is appropriated in Maker Culture. We are concerned here with the appropriations of sound and technology in a process emerging from individualized practice found in the social universe of open collaboration. By producing its own sound, digital making transforms the acoustic environment and gives it meaning.

From his very earliest artistic activities, Jean Cocteau explored the avant-garde through multidisciplinary creations in which poetry, dance and music were intertwined. Ballet provided the medium most responsive to his aspirations. Beginning with a survey of Cocteau's early collaborations in dance, the author will focus on the circumstances which led the poet to work with Rolf de Mare, the director of the Ballets suédois, as well as with the young composers of the Groupe des Six on a collective project entitled Les Mariés de la tour Eiffel. Avant-garde elements of both scenography and music will be explored in this paper.
