AbstractThis article examines the relationship between theatre studies and other disciplines and methods that have appeared in recent years. It attempts to clarify this relationship in reference to the arts, media and culture, and proposes a periodization for theater studies from 1958 to 2008, by imagining present trends towards a necessary rehistorisation of both research and practise.

SummaryDistinctions are made between multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary studies, the latter yielding more integration of knowledge from different sources. High integration is beneficial when training in several disciplines and when specializing in one that is accompanied by taking courses in related subjets. In Quebec universities, students who seek specialization in a discipline should take courses in related fields during their undergraduate training.

AbstractThis article presents the underlying theoretical and epistemological bases for interdisciplinary teacher training. The author proposes a theoretical representation of interdisciplinarity in schools and some of the debates related to these questions. The article begins with a socio-historical analysis of the development of disciplinary knowledge and the contemporary value placed on interdisciplinarity. Following is an epistemological analysis of these concepts, which clarifies related notions as those of multidisciplinarity, pluridisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity, interdisciplinary contacts, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Finally, the author proposes a methodology for interdisciplinary work that is adapted to the school context.

AbstractThis article presents the results of a training action research regarding the interdisciplinary practices in inservice teacher training of Quebec primary teachers. The article presents data from earlier studies, from 1990, in the field of interdisciplinarity in Quebec primary education in order to better contextualize the current study and its impact on training. The results show that longitudinal training which includes active student participation leads students to clarify those concepts being examined, to establish distinctions between interdisciplinary practices and the theoretical foundations, to understand the specificity of interdisciplinarity as it is applied to the curriculum, to didactics, and to pedagogy and, finally, to conceptualize the use of interdisciplinarity to support an integration of learning processes and of knowledge for their students.

The integration of subject matter across the curriculum is once again gaining favour in the Quebec pedagogical debate. In order to bring the discussion up to date the author first sketches a historical overview of the issues, then proposes an up-date in terminology. The rest of the paper describes the constituents of an integrative model qualified as functional. This model, in contrast with the thematic approach, purports to account for the pupil's experience, programme specifics, as well as global aspects of today's school situation.

Starting with the affirmation that interdisciplinarity is useful for the treatment of complex issues facing researchers today, the objective of this paper is to show that there exists knowledges or disciplines that are fundamentally interdisciplinary. Based on the preliminary results of our research in South Eastern Tunisia, we see that rural development, in terms of approaches to the improvement of troubled areas, is a natural an interdisciplinary process.
