What kind of links can be established between Global Studies, International Affairs and International Studies ? A rupture, a renewal or a enlargement ? This paper discusses how these two new academic programs, defining themselves as interdisciplinary and working on international, transnational and global issues, offer a double alternative to International Studies. If professionalization is the best way to define the added value of International affairs, new analytical and theoretical perspectives define the contribution of Global Studies. Through a study of twenty master programs, we will explore how their conditions of emergence, their organisation and their evolution help them to create their own identity, setting themselves apart from International Studies.
