The idea that access to justice relies on the ability of lawyers to develop “new business models” for the provision of legal services has been rising within the legal community in Canada and elsewhere. Following the example set by the England and Wales Legal Services Act 2007, several North American bar associations are currently considering relaxing regulatory constraints and allow lawyers to practice law in different types of “alternative business structures” (ABS). This article examines the approach taken in the Legal Services Act 2007 with respect to ABS and the impact the Act has had on the legal services market to date. In light of available data, it seems that although the presence of ABS fosters innovation, it is not sufficient to drive large-scale changes in business models in the market, at least in the medium term ; in addition, ABS's increased access to capital enable them to have significant effects on the market, regardless of their innovative nature.

This article concerns the trajectory followed by the Aubrac Collection, an assemblage of agricultural implements gathered in France in 1964 and now preserved at the Anthropology Department at the Université de Montréal. The collection exists primarily as a testimony to country life in the Aubrac region, but the author argues that it is also an indicator of the intellectual and academic contexts that gave rise to its creation and preservation. Using a biographically centred methodology, he proposes that in order to truly understand an object, it is necessary to study the institutions and individuals responsible for its creation. This approach sheds light on how the social relationships behind the object are ultimately involved in shaping it.

The present article summarizes two years of work with the portfolio during continuing training for vocational teachers in secondary education. lt deals with the interaction between a formative and summative use of this assessment tool. The different analyses demonstrate the integrative value of the portfolio which enables differenciation of the learners' project. The proposed procedure provides moments for regulation of the learning process and therefore also determines the teaching approach.

Being healthy is more important than ever. Healthy eating, regular exercise, controlling stress and early detection are but some examples that contribute to overall health and wellness. Unfortunately, 60 % of Canadians are inactive and half of them are obese thus predisposing them to cardiovascular illness (CVI) (Agence canadienne de santé publique, 2011a ; Fondation des maladies du coeur du Canada, 2012 ; Statistique Canada, 2011). The Université de Moncton's workplace wellness committee offers various health promotion and disease prevention activities based on an interdisciplinary approach. This article presents an analysis of the results of data obtained during three CVI detection clinics. Thanks to data collected at six stations, the employees have a better understanding of their risk factors associated with CVI, in particular in the areas of body fat and cholesterol. The clinics' successes will be shared along with recommendations.

The quest for a “balanced and healthy” diet should not be devoid of considerations for others and other forms of life. Yet, the satisfaction of individual needs (be they real or fabricated, at the level of a person or small groups) tends to overshadow these considerations. The dominant paradigm in food and nutrition sciences, being largely anthropocentric and self-centered, struggles to provide answers to the complex questions of environmental degradation and equitable use of food resources. This paper outlines the issues at hand, then draws a perspective of the epistemological positions that may help evolve diets and food ways that would be more conducive to “sustainable development” (satisfaction of a broader range of needs). The heuristic value of the ecosystemic paradigm for fostering this evolution is underlined. Given the key role of food in shaping social organisation, it is likely that any progress toward more viability and equity worldwide will entail dietary adaptations.
