Objectives Psychosocial rehabilitation, particularly work integration, is currently a public health preoccupation, as evidenced by recent publications on this topic and the development of new professional insertion program. This article aims to present a French health facility focused on psychosocial rehabilitation of persons in state of psychic disability, in order to highlight its specific programs of professional insertion. Methods After a brief remind about the theoretical foundations of psychosocial rehabilitation, psychic disability and recovery, we present the means used by our healthcare facility, illustrating our remarks with 2 case studies. Results Our rehabilitation programs demonstrate the need of a multidisciplinary in interventions, the need for multiplicity in proposals of activities, the importance of self-determination, of healthcare professionals in management of the public admitted in our healthcare facility, and the importance of fighting the stigma caused by mental disorders. Conclusion Our programs need to be placed in the French context, in which persist stigmatization towards persons with psychiatric disorders, and huge barriers to employment.

AbstractThe authors of this article examine the difficulties in using the concept of competencies by curriculum developers based on the methodological support offered to them and on the analysis of several recent studies. The authors present an analysis and a proposal for re-thinking the theoretical frame for explaining the logic of competencies in curriculum. They show how the theoretical inadequacy of this concept and the scarcity of research in this field lead to ambiguities which confront program developers. Until now, the lack of precision in defining this concept has made its use as a program organizer difficult. The current use of this inadequately defined concept for curriculum development produces some incoherencies, although the concept of competence is ripe for study.

AbstractFrom 1993, the Government of Ontario, General Programme Guide for grades 1 to 9 provides for an integration of various school disciplines into 4 areas of study, one of these being mathematics, science, and technology. This new structure must also be considered in the teacher training programme. With this objective, the University of Ottawa undertook an exploratory study of students in pre-service training at the intermediate secondary level (grades 7 to 10). The methodology included the development and use of two training strategies: one in the formal University course, the other during the practicum in the school setting where these future teachers are encouraged to apply an interdisciplinary type of pedagogy. The two strategies are described and the results of the project are discussed.

The study describes the implemented approach within the framework of a research-action dealing with interactions between socio-economical and ecological dynamics in a coastal area (Ouessant island, in the west of France). It describes how the companion modelling approach has encouraged the interdisciplinarity. The tools of the companion modelling (multi-agent model, simulations computing, role-playing game) were used to raise awareness with local people in landscape dynamics. Then they were mobilized for students to coastal issues and sustainable development. The scientific knowledge was disseminated by adapting the main research output, to local population and to young people. This was done in association with land managers and educators, and a reflective analysis the commitment of participants in these devices was undertaken. Through this experiment, most participants developed new skills related to interdisciplinarity, cooperation and communication, about the environmental management. This sudy also reveals the difficulties of appropriation of the approach by the partners. The appropriation of the stance of companion modelling seems then central at the same time to constitute a collective, but also to take up developed tools.

This article argues that urban studies have not reached a status of clearly defined discipline in France due to the epistemological conflicts that shape the social sciences dedicated to the urban phenomena. Based on the example of a research protocol dealing with the implementation of French programs of urban renewal and after an examination of the literature at the foundation of French urban studies, the article suggests to improve the dialogue between the different works of this research stream following a logic of interdisciplinarity that could be favorable to the structuration of a specific discipline.
