Even though the transmission of firms is one of the major stakes of the French economy, the psychological drags shown by some company heads during the process of managerial succession are not thoroughly known. Based on the case study of a family Smaller Business Firm (SBF), this article puts forward a methodological frame of study (the biography method) along with a theoretical one (dynamics psychology), which may shed a new light on this phenomenon. On lines other than those of the social and political paradigm, we will try to show to what extent the lives and histories of company heads can inform us about the psychological blocks shown by some of them when they have to leave their business.

With a view to primary prevention of the potentially harmful influence of stress on the developmental tasks of adolescents, a universal program, Funambule : pour une gestion équilibrée du stress, was created and evaluated using a quasi-experimental design (Dumont et al., with Massé, Potvin and Leclerc, 2012). A total of 138 Quebec adolescents from ages 14 to 19 were matched in experimental and control groups based on perceived stress level (Problems in various areas of life; Seiffge-Krenke, 2005). The effects of the program were assessed using the Stress management questionnaire (Dumont, Massé, Leclerc and Potvin, 2007), the Social Problem-Solving Inventory (Maydeu-Olivares and D'Zurilla, 1996) and The Cognitive Test Anxiety Scale (Cassady and Johnson, 2002). As expected, beneficial effects were observed between the pre-test and the post-test in the experimental group, which was not the case in the control group. The results indicate a significant improvement in stress management for three of the four Funambule components, namely: work on the perception of stress, the body and thoughts. A significant improvement in the rational ability to solve problems and a significant reduction in evaluation anxiety was also found among students in the experimental group.

ABSTRACTSince the 1980's, we have observed a resurgence of the idea of a satanic plot which has given rise to veritable panic in certain circles. Many satanists could be performing mournful rituels including the assault of children. The proofs offered are accounts of " rediscovered memories " which arise during the course of psychotherapy. But inquiries and studies have not confirmed the allegations. In fact, satanists are rare; it is the anti-satanists that are numerous and very active. It is here that we find a social phenomenon that is not without precedent.

SUMMARYThe analysis treatment of a psychotic individual presupposes a global problem focus on the causes of psychosis, its structure, its outbreak, and the stages in its development. Here, psychosis is viewed in its specifically psychic dimension, where Lacanian theory, to which the author adheres, places the cause of the sickness: (the "forclusion" of the names of the father). This formula indicates the absence of the paternal function. This lack originates in the fact that a dysfunction of the symbolic order in the family structure presides over the birth of a subject. The locating of the elements (the signifiers) of such symbolic dysfunction is essential because the delusion attempts to repair this defect in the representational order. Against this defect the subject first constructed imaginary assemblings which allow him a provisional articulation, satisfying for him, to others and to social reality. The outbreak of the psychosis results in the collapse of such imaginary scaffoldings. Then after a period of bewilderment and psychic retreat, all the effort of the psychotic is directed at the reconstitution of a new representational order. The work of the analysis consistants of attempting, on the basis of the signifiers put forward by the delusion, to assist the psychotic in his reconstitution of symbolic order. The delusion is the access road to this work in psychosis just as the dream is the royal road to the unconscious in the neurosis. The effort of this article is directed at situating these stages in the treatment of psychosis in their theorical and clinical foundations.

AbstractThe objective of this theoretical essay is to discuss a conceptual definition of alienation and its application to a socio-psychological approach. Referring to several previous studies, the author describes various dimensions of alienation. He also shows how the other concept of self-actualization may be useful to re-define alienation in the context of personality theory and social psychology. The author finally suggests some modifications to Carl Roger's theory of self-actualization (particularly the introduction of the concepts of power and action) that would allow the social psychologist to make use of this theory to study personal experience in a social context.

AbstractThis text is a critical examination of the whole field of psychosociological intervention, from the classical T-group to the "new group therapies". The author first presents a certain number of constants in the various group experiences. He then discusses several forms of compartmentaliza-tion which are characteristic of the theory and practice of intervention : compartmentalization within the personality itself, between the individual and the collectivity, between the intervention and the social system, and between the intervention and the cultural system. He then identifies six models of intervention and indicates a certain number of possible directions for research on intervention which to date have not been explored to any extent. This article is based mainly on American and French studies. Several other texts in this issue of Sociologie et sociétés deal with the questions raised by the author.

Although there is no clear typology of the characteristics of child molesters, the scientific literature highlights cognitive distortions and a constellation of maladaptive personality traits involved in the development and maintenance of deviant sexuality. As these factors also contribute to the development of dysfunctional sexual behaviors and to the risk of recidivism, they may be key targets for intervention. The current study examines changes in cognitive distortions and personality traits in men being treated for child sexual abuse. The sample was composed of 134 intrafamilial child molesters enrolled in an evaluation and treatment program for sexual abuse. Participants were assessed three times : at their admission to the program and after the first and second year of treatment. Results suggest significant decreases in cognitive distortions as well as decreases in neuroticism and increases in extraversion. At the individual level, a meaningful proportion of men showed improvements on most of the variables assessed. These findings support the plasticity of personality and cognitive distortions in child molesters and provide evidence for the effectiveness of the program.

In collaboration with the Child Protection Services of Montreal, we are currently testing a new protocol for the assessment of parental capacity in child protection cases. The uniqueness of this project is that we included as part of the assessment protocol a short-term video-feedback and attachment-based intervention to assess parental capacity to change. This intervention aims at reinforcing maternal sensitive and reparation behavior to promote parental capacity to care and protect. This article presents the protocol we developed in collaboration with the Child Protection Services of Montreal. First, we describe what is involved in a parental capacity assessment in child protection cases. Attachment theory and related key concepts are then described as the theoretical frame of reference. Following this description, the attachment-based intervention strategy, which was used to activate parental capacity, is then presented. Finally, preliminary results are reported with regard to the efficacy of the intervention and its' relevancy for the assessment of parental capacity, in particular parent capacity to change.
