How do Québécois films remember the Quiet Revolution? How do these films construct the event? The study of films produced in the 1960s and those produced afterwards which have the decade as their focal point help us answer the above questions. The article's themes of analysis are the following: the places in which the action unfolds, intergenerational relations and the characters' bonds to their community, nationalism, the here and the elsewhere, the attention paid to art and especially to music and finally the use of the film medium. While the winds of change were blowing in the Québec of the 1960s and while the protagonists in these films are young, the changes observed are not the same in films produced in the 1960s compared to those which focus on the decade with hindsight. In fact, they do not share the same approach to history and memory. The first group of films seek to make a clean sweep of the past and their characters evolve in a present sometimes devoid of a future while in the second group of films the protagonists possess both a genealogy and a destiny.

This article raises the question of the links between failure and legitimacy in the professional practice. We choose to focus on the venture capitalists because failures are recurrent in their practice. Our methodology is qualitative (semi structured-interviews with French venture capitalists). We show that failure is a matter of perception. The main professional practice of this profession – syndication – is the place where professional legitimacy is enhanced, maintained or damaged. Our results show that legitimacy is not necessarily affected by failure. It depends on the perception of failure and on the perceived responsibility of the actor in the failure.

Since 2007, the number of children proposed for adoption by the French Adoption Agency (Agence française de l'adoption) has been in decline. This phenomenon can also be observed in other organizations authorized to implement adoptions in France and internationally, and is generally found worldwide. Along with this quantitative evolution, a qualitative change can also be observed : the profile of the children proposed for adoption has changed and increasingly includes more children with “special needs”. This article aims to present the socio-demographic profiles of French parents and of their children from other European countries, adopted through the French Adoption Agency between 2007 and 2010, based on statistical analysis of one of the databases of the Agency. Two major differences emerge from the analysis of the socio-demographic profiles of parents applying to adopt through the French Adoption Agency compared to other adoptive parents : they are older and more often single. While single women are more likely to be offered children with “special needs”, they also more often refuse offers, probably because they have been better informed through the close support provided for families by the Agency, which, as a public service, has its own staff team consisting of a doctor and a full-time psychologist.

The Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States of America for cooperation in the examination of refugee status claims from nationals of third countries (Safe Third Country Agreement) has been subject to criticism since its adoption. Aimed at addressing asylum shopping, the agreement prevents asylum seekers, who have transited through one country, from applying for asylum in the other, subject to certain exceptions. The fact that the agreement applies only to land border ports of entry has led to an increase in irregular entries into Canada, particularly since 2017. The agreement has been the subject of numerous legal challenges. Against this backdrop, the authors analyze the implementation of the agreement in Canadian law and the issues it raises. They argue that the agreement is counterproductive, as if fails to effectively promote the orderly processing of refugee claims from the United States. They also examine the historical background of the numerous legal challenges to the agreement, including the latest Federal Court decision of 2020 which found that the agreement violates section 7 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

According to Pierre Bourdieu, one way for the economically dominant groups to maintain their domination in the French society was to promote their own cultural capital as an objective condition to access social, political and economic leadership. This study shows that Bourdieu's conclusions can be partially transposed into the international sphere. It focuses on the United Nations and demonstrates how the cultural capital of the economically dominant group (the group of Western States) is largely over-represented among its leaders. The study also analyses some important non-governmental organizations and establishes that the leaders often share that same trait. It concludes by showing the extent to which choosing international leaders among peoples with Western cultural capital discriminates against the other social groups of the planet.

The first part of this paper examines the consequences of a would-be accession of Québec to sovereignty in terms of nationality. It shows that there are no predetermined rules governing this issue. The consequences of a would-be accession to sovereignty in terms of nationality cannot be easily foreseen. However, based on the practice of States, there are several available options which are examined in this article. The second part of this paper studies the various principles which govern the jurisdiction of States with respect to nationality. It also considers the various possible elements of a Québec nationality.
